This is the basic goal. Aluminum is a great conductor of heat but I think the rushing air isn't being heated that much. Lemme think here...

A 5l engine at 6000 RPM and WOT is moving 250 liters of air per second or 125 lps in each duct. A 3" duct has 45 cm^2 of area. The air is moving 27 meters per second! It's in the tube for just a fraction of a second so the heat transferred is small.

Someone check my math!

Glen, very good analysis, but one error, sorry. The velocity is 2.7 meters per second. Still pretty high velocity. An intake tube is like 1 meter long, so that represents a complete change of air in the intake tube every 1/3 of a second. Hardly enough time to have any heating effective from a metal tube.

Those plug in sonic repellants seem to work great for mice too. For a while I was trapping at least two a week. Then I plugged in the sonic thing and didn't get a single one in the traps for a couple months. Then I noticed one trapped and checked the sonic and the outlet had popped so it wasn't working. Reset the outlet and haven't seen a mouse since.

27 mps seems high, but where's the error?

125 lps * 1000 cm^3/l = 125000 cm^3/s

125000 cm^3/s / 45 cm^2 = 2778 cm/s

2778 cm/s / 100 cm/m = 27 m/s

No?

I started with a volumetric efficiency of 100% which is wrong but it gives a good ballpark number.

The real deal factory part NEW is about $45.00 each from 928 International. Be sure to cut holes in your ducting for pulling air from the cambelt covers. It is part of the factory design.

85 would be a more realistic figure.
