Default First time Leatheriquing, will this steering wheel need crack filler?

Title says it all pretty much. Its a Momo club 4, bought it used a year ago and it wore quickly. I got the leatherique steering wheel kit a couple months back and have been meaning to do this. the top part has seem some really bad wear and light pitting, just want to make sure before i start whether a sanding should take care of this top part or not, because I don't have any crack filler at the moment!

Thanks in advance,
Jonathan.

I dont see any major cracks or chunks missing to require crack filler. This will be more for the seats as there is a lot of flex and compression on the cracked leather. I say sand smooth and repaint.

I agree with Danny. Also you can use acetone to strip old finish instead of, or in addition to sanding. Don't get acetone anywhere you don't want it though, it's pretty aggressive
Good luck,
Dave.

I used the steering wheel kit and prep agent with sandpaper as advised. I was very pleased with the result, but I was very gentle. The old finish comes off very easily so don't rub hard - and be sure to use gloves.

Here is the before pic:

and after stripping (with a dust smudge):

And after dying and clear coating per the kit:
