timing belt warning

timing belt warning
I had purchased this 1991 S4 for about 1 week. One of the main reason that I purchased this car was because that It had a full dealer maintenance record.
But......the time belt warning light was on last week when I start the car in the morning, I shuted it down and restarted and no more warning light. I started it on the next day and no light.......until this morning when I start it up again, the t-belt light was on again. I shut it down and restart and no more light.
When I looked into the maintenance history of this car in porsche dealer provide by the last owner. The belt was changed in 5 years ago but it is 2000km before. I understand that time wise it was due but mileage wise it is not.
Also according to the record, the 2xcamshaft timing gear was changed in Jan 2012 (400km before) at the porsche dealer. I assumed that the dealer also had checked the belt tension at that moment too (because the T-belt had to come off for the camshaft timing gears change, am I correct?).
What should I do next? Should I call the dealer and make an appointment tomorrow? My family and I never have the chance to enjoy this car yet. Too Bad.
Thks.

1) Never, ever call and bother the Porsche stealership regarding your 928.
2) Do not start the car again until the timing system is looked at carefully by a 928 independent specialist.
3) Make friends with a 928 guru in your area, or get the manuals and learn by DIY.
4) Post your location in your signature block so we know where you are.
5) Wecome! Congrats on the car purchase, you've chosen well, now lets see what we can do for you.

Although I agree that an investigation of the belt system is a wise move, especially when you don't know the exact history of the car.......
In this case the problem appears to be with the light warning system. There is a time delay on the cambelt warning system, several minutes. So it should never come on with the engine running in those first few minutes. Sounds like there may be an intermittant problem in the digi-dash.

The last owner was a big biz man and he had spent fortune on this car. But I am just a budget runner and need all the help I can get.
Thank you for helping out.

Kevin,
Technically there is a timing chain between the two cam shafts. I surmise the name 'timing' for it facilitates the timing sequence of the valves. The 928.105.157.50 is the toothed belt which facilitates the timing between the crankshaft and the cam gears. The correct tension of this belt is critical for if the belt jumps on an interference engine, your valves are destroyed. We tend to reserve timing belt for this critical toothed belt.

And also on Jan/2012 they had R&R 2x Camshaft Timing Gear) Mileage 76199 km. (at Porsche dealer)
Now the mileage is 76624 km.
They must had the timing belt re tensioned at that moment (400 km ago.)
I had checked the tensioner wire (I guess I check the right one. I do can see the tensioner without remove anything right on the passenger side of a left hand drive car?) I turn the wire a bit to make sure it is well connected. I clean up the earth contact for the battery at the trunk. My battery is on the low side.
And I had the car started up again for 15mins and no light. Shut it down and start again for 5 mins still no light.
What should I do next? Should l try to have another cold start 12 hrs later and see.
Thanks
