Default Buy a respray - yes, no, maybe?

Looking at a repainted S4 tomorrow. It was previously wine red and has been resprayed in a non-Porsche blue that I like a lot.

I know that the ultimate answer to whether to buy a respray depends on what you as a buyer want out of the car. A non-Porsche color respray is ok with me as a concept. The seller says he spent "around" 4k on the respray. This indicates that the windows were certainly not removed and replaced and the respray was probably a tape and spray.

I have read many posts that state that peeling from edges of openings is likely, if not inevitable, with this type or respray. Is this so?

Also, what parts of the car should I give the most scrutiny to get a handle on how well the paint was done.

Thanks

I believe you are looking at the one in Ellicott City. I would look around the rear quarter windows. Typically, they are not remove the trim around those areas and you can see peeling or paint difference. Also that vehicle is missing some items....

If the rear window and trim around the doors were not removed I can almost guarantee peeling. If it hasn't happened yet, it will!

Here you go - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Stunn...item35bbf62ffb

Odometer is broken. Has been for while.

They can paint under the rubber if they put weed trimming line under it. This lifts the trim and the paint ends undet it. So it won't peel. For $4K, it should be a fairly detailed paint job.

If they don't get under the rubber its a two or three year paint job before needing another, but unless they fully sand and prep under the trim its still temporary. Thats my take on paint anyway, trouble in cheaper paint jobs is all about where the paint stops, and how well the prep was done.

If you like nice paint, its much cheaper to find a car with good original paint that can be brought up to the level you want.

You'd have to judge in person. I think the exterior looks good enough if the mechanical checks out. . Suspension, fuel lines and drive train would be more important.

That's a beautiful color!

Front spoiler is about $400, the two belly pans would probably just as much for a new front and used rear one.

The interior needs quite a bit of detailing, including replacement of the already mentioned speaker grilles. I suspect the center console is broken at the top, where it should attach to the dash. I cannot think of any other explanation for the huge gap.
