How to disassemble / re-assemble three piece rims
I've purchased wider rim halves for the wheels on my 928 (see pic in my sig line).
These are Strosek rims built by OZ Racing. They have the headless bolt construction (like a Fikse?) where you don't have bolt heads that come through to the outside of the wheel. I'm assuming the wheel centers have the studs tapped directly into them.
I'd like to be able to do this myself, but don't know what to expect, and what exactly I would need. There's a seal on the seam where the rim halves come together, and I don't think it will survive disassembly. Also, I'm wondering what kind of sealant to use on the mating surfaces, and if there is a gasket between the rim halves that I would need to source. And, lastly, is it typical to re-use the mounting nuts that holds the rim halves togehter or are they a disposable item that I'll need to replace.
Thanks for any input on this, I'll be cross posting on a couple of forums here on R-list.

Just did my 3 piece OZ rims ( I damaged a outer lip big time) you may need a special 10 point socket for the bolts , got the set out of a tool place in NY part # B1147-48 69.93 . Baumtools.com they call it a MB wheel socket kit .the fastners are reuseable . The wheels are put together with a special sealent , I got mine on ebay along with a new rim lip , but tuner shop in US has it as well .Hope that helps .

Adam , no the sealant came in a tube that fit in a calking gun , with no markings it cost 27.00 . 1 tube just did 4 rims . And no leaks ! There was no gasket in the rims , just the sealant , done so nicely it looked like a gasket .

Tunershop .com has the sealant . 69.00 ? I got ripped off I payed 69.95 . Just for fun , look at the price of the socket set OZ dealers want to charge . 35 bolts / nuts ?

Got these done.
Good times rebuilding the rims, here they are waiting for the black sealant to dry:
and today after getting the monster rubber mounted (335's):
I probably won't be able to install until the weekend. When I do I'll post more pics.

Those things are massive...takes "steamroller" to a whole new level gonna look great with the Ott Flares... but I still think you should have gone with the dually setup

Those are really cool.
Are those BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW NT (or 2) tires? I've always wondered about those; seems like they'd be loud.
Anyway, you're definitely ready to roll.

I feel a photo op coming up. We'll need to get the 996 twists back on your track car and do some creative wheel mounting with the flats you have on there now.
Thanks Ed, yes they are. I'll find out about the noise soon enough. I know Sterling runs these on his ride, and I think he was okay with level of road noise. The only other option in this size are the Micheline Pilot Sports, which are mucho $$$. Don't know that they are any quieter. I think at these widths, "quiet" doesn't enter into the vocabulary" .

Awesome info! I've got a set of classic 16" rims that they won't service since they don't do 16" rims anymore. (Fittipali actually) Now I can clean them up and get them back into service once I get the 10 pt. sockets. Thanks!
