sideways play in damper sounds bad and is hard to diagnose without removal. Also cracked spring support plate. that doesnt sound great either. Ive had both. the side play is annoying as it comes and goes. sounds like knocking generally but also scraping on cornering.

We couldn't demonstrate it yesterday in the smooth parking area at the picnic. Van's coming over to my place some day this week. The rise at the beginning of my driveway should jostle it enough produce the noise and help us locate it, and then onto my lift to find it. You've given us a number of ideas regarding things to check.
