They are very nice as well but a totally different experience. The M3 is more of a sports car. The SL55 has crap loads of torque down low which I enjoy

I heard the SL55's have horrible reliability, even Clarkson had unfavorable reviews when he had his. How has your experience been?

I've had 3 of them and have put about 50k miles on them combined. My 2003 was at the dealer a lot but my 2006 and 2007 have been very relialable. That said I would never own one without a warranty. I bought one for my current car for about $3k and it's good for 5 year 50k miles.

2007 S550 and Mercedes Benz in general:

70 miles engine out, due to failed timing sprocket. MB happened to have a 'kit' on hand. After repeated calls, to both MB Canada and my dealer (whom has serviced my cars, and those in my family (out of warranty I might add) for 25+ years) came to the party on parts and 2.5 hours of labor. 30 hours of labor was my side. As you can imagine, not very happy. Especially with the fact that MB has a class action lawsuit against them in NJ for this issue, and the problems spans multiple platforms. I believe that the problem was addressed after 2009 models, but not sure.
I divested myself of MB and the dealership. Too bad MB North America has gone this route. I loved my mercs.
Photos of engine out and timing sprocket.

If you have this era MB, I urge you to take it to your dealer and have them explain this issue to you. If you get a check engine light and it is related to a sensor on the right cylinder bank… ..Well, this little bit of kit cost me 6K all in.

FYI

I saw this yesterday in my reading, kinda on topic - http://jalopnik.com/5982789/the-most...urce=pulsenews

I like the looks of a lot of mercs from the last decade especially the w220 but the complexity and parts cost would keep me away.

What is the VIN of this S4?
I wonder if it's an early model.

My wife had a 2006 MB R300...really sweet car...we loved it, although it had a weak 6cyl...it did fine...at 60k miles, got the check engine sprocket light...got a quote, and then promptly took a 4k loss on it, trading for a toyota highlander, and never looked back...I blame it on the Chrysler era....

I say look through the random pic thread again and then decide.
That's what I always do when I'm feeling unsure about mine.

Needless to say the shark is still sitting in my driveway.
