Default Another cheap fix - blower motor

After fixing my resistor pack, it was time for the heater blower motor. I know Roger has a perfect replacement fit with a new Bosch motor. However, I wanted it cheaper and was willing to give in on some originality and spend some more time on it.

I took everything around the blower motor apart and went to the breaker's yard. I soon noticed that most blower motors turn in the wrong direction. I found one from a cheap little new Fiat, but it still was a Bosch motor. (I don't trust the Italian quality so much, but Bosch is fine).

First trial fit:

It can be seen that the motor actually is much smaller than the original one. I took off the original fitting bracket to try and fix it in a similar way as the original Porsche motor:

I didn't trust the fixing, so took a different approach; in the Fiat, the motor was held by 3 rubber parts with a didicated shape to keep the motor in place and prevent the housing from turning.

In the rush of everything, I forgot to take pictures, but here's one through the fan:

Through the 3rd opening in the fan, one of the rubber parts can be seen.

The good thing is that the motor now is completely held by rubber elements, preventing leading through of vibration and thus noise. The other thing is that it finally is quiet...

The motor had only cost me 20 Euros for the second hand unit, which could be had maybe even cheaper if one would take the time to search.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the result!

I'm very troubled by all you folks digging into Roger's profit. How will he afford beer if you keep with these DIY fixes? lol

Is it really cheaper?
Go to the junk yard spend the time and the gas going there. Find a motor that is most likely going to work. Spend the money for a used unit and spend a lot of time fitting it in the housing.
The motor is smaller and thus less powerful.
Sorry, but Irather buy a new motor that fits 100% and works better than the old unit. Plus it should last another 20 years...

Just my 50 Cents...

I don't know 'bout you, but with half an hour to the scrap yard and back (including selecting) and 3 evenings of messing about to get it work seems like fun and cheap to me. It's a million times better to me than buying a new one from Porsche for multi-hundreds of Euros.
Next to driving it, to me it's also fun to drive this car and keep maintenance costs low, giving in on originality. I don't care of there's no 928 ... ... number on all parts.
But everybody for it's own, right? It's just my sort of fun...

As a fan of low-cost fixes I'm inspired--been meaning to get to the blower one of these days and maybe it'll be today.

Besides, it's the journey that counts, right?
