For an early car, you can buy the 9004 plugs and crimp on male spades and just plug them into the original sealed beam sockets - or you can cut off the sealed beam sockets and splice the 9004 plugs onto your wiring harness. It's one harness for the whole front of the car though, so you may want to think twice before cutting things off.... It's just three wires to connect either way.

I've had a pair of 8" H4s in my garage for more than a year, but I'm a bit scared of changing the connectors on my factory wiring harness.

Does anybody know, if there is an adapter plug or wire that I could use instead?

I have a feeling that is just an H4 socket...?

However - if you also buy one of these per side:

You can make up your own plug & play adapter

Yeah, it appears the Pelican part may be nothing more than an H4 plug without wires. Confusing advertising. Sorry about that. What you need is a male H5 (9004, HB1) plug and wire it to a female H4 (9003) plug to make an adapter. That's what Alan is suggesting. You can buy H4 plugs already made up with wires in any autoparts store and splice that to male H5. This place sells them pre-wired.
