He was right here in River City for a long time, but I think he closed up shop a couple of years or so ago and left, but I don't know where he might have gone.

By the way, Hacker, if you are still interested in doing a 928 with a chopped top and still retain the hatch, let me know. I have done just about all the design work to figure out how to chop the top, in my case three inches, and still retain the hatch.

My design project involves chopping the top 3 inches and sectioning the car 2inches. That will involve cutting the body into about 26 major pieces, not all at the same time, since you need to retain much of the car intack as you progress so that it becomes its own jig, and it also involves shortening the car about 5 and a half inches, all in the rear, some in front of the rear wheels and some behind them.

The hatch becomes much shorter, but still retains the original glass, and the rear quarter windows will be significantly smaller. When I can find it I'll send you a picture of the cut and tape version of the car as altered. It will look a lot like the photoshop version of the car that Sterling used to have in his avatar. This design will also retain the fuel tank, but with a shortened neck and will still have the original spare tire and battery well(s).

To chop the top the way I intend, one will need to have an extra 928 roof in order to minimize some welding and patching or filling in gaps, but those are readily available from cars that have been stripped and the tub is going to the crusher.

The only major item that will need to be dealt with regarding the engine and sectioning by 2 inches is the induction which will have to be redesigned so that it is about 2 inches lower. I think I have that figured out also.

The top chop will eliminate the sunroof. The seats will have to be lowered a little to give enough headroom, but the sunroof delete will help with that some.

Let me know if you are interested any further.

Very cool, Jerry! Sounds like a very fun project!

George, here is an updated side rendition of the Bubble Top.

Note the following:
  • Body raked forward (crashed UFO look)
  • Front Shocks mounted laterally with front frame (lunar lander look)
  • Upturned Exhaust (dragster reference)
  • Heavily tinted bubble (survival necessity)

As soon as it's done and sorted out, we can blast down the Howard Frankland in it

In the spirit of the thing, check out the Citroen DS from The 10th Victim, from about 1:06.

I like that. Maybe "Jet-Lit-Ster"?

Had also considered "Roswell" or "UFO"

Fogey1, those Citroen DS's are very unique inside and out, for sure.
