Thats a shame about RHD...I was getting excited about not having warm air in the cabin (when A/C not required)
I have this setup : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:19..._928_S4_V8.jpg
I'll keep an eye out incase you do further designs.

Cheers,

Christopher L. and others, one thing I want to emphasize is that when you place an order for the Cowl Cover I need to know which version of the cover to send. The best way for me to tell, if you don't know for sure, or if you don't say which one, is to have you tell me the MY of your 928. In most cases that will dictate which cover you need. Not all, but most.

Let me hear from you, Chris, Please.

Looks great - I will PM an order for a cover and seal for my '85 - no intensive washer.

I do not have the original or seal and hope that the addition will reduce the engine heat carry over to the cabin as you suggest.

I wish, Matt, that my foresight had been better. I made five forms for these covers thinking that I would save a lot by having them formed four at a time and giving myself some flexibility in adjusting the proportions between versions. As it turns out forming two at a time is the better production method for several reasons, even though it takes longer.

I think I am going to wish that I had put the extra effort into making two of the forms into ones that could form these same covers, but opposite, for the RHD cars. I guess that if the demand is great enough I may still consider converting the two extra forms into RHD to satisfy that demand. I'll post something later if I do. Converting them will be a lot easier than starting over even with just two of them.

I got the two earliest Shell stickers corrected and picked them up yesterday. I also have corrected my failure to have adequately preflighted my shipping system before I started this thread. When I got to packaging some of these covers that have been ordered I found that my staple gun was not working like it should so I have spend a while today going around town locating the correct spaples that hopefully will not jam. I'll finish up the packagaing tonight and put most of thsese in the mail tomorrow morning.

Here are the corrected stickers.

Hi Cruiser. I shipped your Cowl Cover and the others that had ordered, early this morning by Priority Mail. I think those that are closer will get there maybe by Saturday and the rest likely on Monday.

I realized after I put them in the mail that I had left out of all of them the instructions that I had prepared that I thought will be helpful. So, I am posting those in the regular mail this afternoon. I hope the delay does not cause any difficulty.

As to the heat from the engine compartment into the cabin, I think the seal will help with that, but I think you ought to consider checking the plastic heater valve behind the engine since I think when that fails it allows hot water into the system which works against the AC cooling. My primary S4 is doing that and I have a new valve to change it out when I can get to doing some wrenching again.

Thanks Jerry. I know I need to check my heater valve but I am also sure this can't hurt and it may even help. Thanks for the quick shipment.

Jerry,

Will any of yours fit a RHD car without intensive stuff up there? My 83 Euro has its intensive up on the front apron, AFAIK....

Hi JP.

Actually, one of my Cowl Cover versions is made without provision for an opening near the end for the intensive washer system/bottle, or either end for that matter. However, the intake opening for the HVAC air is on the passenger side for LHD cars while it is on the other side for the RHD cars. However, I hadn't thought about it before, but the HVAC may not care which side the air is coming in from, and if the air vent is not in the way of any of the WS wiper mechanism, and I don't think it is, I don't know why it would not "fit" in the RHD cars. It wont be "correct," but it might fit.

I have an idea! If you will pay the S&H to wherever you are I'll send you one of the few prototype washerless versions to test this new proposition in your car. If you are interested all I ask is that you post something about the results of your test.

I think this is might end up being an interim solution for the RHD car guys, or those without the washer provision in the cowl area, and that could include all but the S4 and GT cars.

For the longer run I am giving serious consideration to converting two of the three extra forms to proper RHD covers. Before I do I need to get a good indication of the proportion of interest between the two versions I am making now since I will need to end up with two forms for the most popular version and one for the other. That way I can have more accurate control over how many of each to produce at one time rather than one of each version in each vacuum pull.

Thanks for your interest.

Jerry,
My current cover is 927.574.553.02, and it covers just over half the area, from the left side. It ends only an inch or so from the hood hinge. There is nothing sticking above the level of the cover on the right side, so I see no reason why something that covered the whole cavity would not fit. All that comes out of the cavity is the feeds to the winsdscreen washers, around the left end by the hinge.
If this info doesnt change your mind, I would be very happy to take up your offer of paying shipping and giving you feedback and pics. Send me a paypal invoice for shipping to

I already have one of your spare wheel covers installed, and very happy with it.

Jerry,

I dont have a Shell sticker on the cowl cover - I have a large yellow Shell sticker (-543.00) on the air cleaner casing. Seal - along the front edge (towards the engine), there is a rubber piece running all the way across the firewall top edge, and it looks like the cowl cover is caught under it on the left side....is that what you mean? Curiously , under the seal edge, I can see what looks like a strip of alloy, and it seems to be pop rivetted to the firewall top....is this normal?

As an aside, last time i tried to post a picture, I found I had to delete some old pics to make room. Is this normal, there is a pretty low limit on total pics loaded per user ?

thanks

JP, I think you may need to be a member to be able to post a picture. Otherwise I don't think there is much or any limit to the data space you might need. I'm sure others may know more about this than I do.

As to the riveted metal strip, I have seen it in many pictures of this part of the car, so I am sure it is normal.

The crossways rubber seal is what I was asking about. Is yours in good condition?

Yes, my seal seems to be in good condition. I have probably only had it off once in 10 years now.
Pretty sure I am a member(see my profile - 3103 posts and Super User!), and have been stopped from uploading pics several times lately, until I deleted some old ones. Who should i contact to fix this next time?

tks
