Whether the tyre has an "N" rating or not seems to have a huge effect also.
Some years ago, I bought a set of Bridgestone S-02 tyres for my 944S2.
Stock is 205/55R16 on the front, 225/50R16 on the rear.
Being semi-intelligent, I thought I would go 225/50R16 on the front, and 245/45R16 on the rear.
The 205 and 225 were available with N2 rating, the 245 was not.
The kicker: 225/50R15 N2 has a tread width of 222 mm, 245/45R16 has a tread width of 187 mm. Read that carefully - the wider-section tyre had MUCH narrower tread.
Lesson: The tyre companies change the formulation, tread pattern, and width of tread to meet the Porsche N standard requirements of grip, noise, and durability.
