Heading north on I-5 south of Eugene. Getting alternator warnings, battery voltage dropping, looks like it is not getting charged. Anyone know of a shop in Eugene/Springfield that can help?
Yes we know that the volt meter is notoriously inaccurate. These are readings from the Sharktuner.
Thanks,
Sue

I have a spare S4+ alternator sitting here that I can Fedex, just say the word. I'd bet Anderson's got a few too. Or Louie?

Can't help with diagnosing the issue..but I do know that a GT will drive for about 1.5 hours on just the battery (no accessories on). I made it from south of Portland to Longview..before I had to pull over. Pick up a spare battery...and when it starts to stutter..pull over..pop in the new battery and keep going
.
Good luck

Been three decades since I lived in Eugene, so the shops I knew are probably gone or under new owership. Stay away from Carrera Motorworks if they are still there. Stay away from the dealer, of course. Small World were kinda the goto guys for German stuff when I was there. They had a new parts place, a used parts place, and a shop. I see the shop is still there: 541-683-6475. Looks like the parts place is still there (541) 685-1535. Sounds like you need a regulator. Good news is it takes about three hand tools and about an hour to replace it. Bad news is you will have to find it. If Small World does not have it they may be able to refer you to an auto electrical place.

Go to your autoparts store and ask for a voltage regulator. You do need to pull to replace, but it's easy to replace and will likely fix the problem

Made it to Eugene and coasted into Eric Jones Motorsports, found via Google maps. Diagnosis is alternator is not charging. Car is currently on the lift and the alternator is coming out. If new brushes don't help, a rebuilt alternator is on the way from Portland. Should be here this afternoon.
Eric is a super nice guy with a shop full of very cool cars. More to follow and thanks to you all for responding to our plea!

Jim/Sue..glad to hear you found a nice shop to get the work done...

If you need youth and enthusiasm there in Eugene, I've emailed you Pip's phone number. Mildred the car is probably available for local runs. Pip knows where the good beers are as well.

We're on the road again. Eric took the alternator to the alternator shop where they replaced the brushes. Tested out fine. Brought it back to his shop and put it back in.
Yes, Tom, the car does have the belly pans and alternator shroud. We're sure we could have done this lying in a puddle on the side of the road, but somehow this was seemed more attractive!
Bill, we're sorry we didn't have time to find Pip and have a beer.
Eric Jones did a great job for us and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Didn't know much about 928's but was a quick study. Here's his info if you need help in Eugene:

A "REAL" 928 owner..... LOL, would have changed it out in the pouring rain lying in the passing lane of the I-5 using one hand while the other held the car up!!!!
