Default thinking ahead

Hello all, eventually I'm going to change my suspension in my 87 s4, it's stock now, but instead of doing shock and spring kit can I just do shocks? Or just springs? If so what's good for road? Thanks

Since they are coil-overs you'll be happiest doing them both at once. Gotta take them apart to change either. Might as well put together the good stuff and put it in.

Changing your shocks using your stock springs will give the car an entirely different feel.

You can learn 5x faster on crap, than you can on a setup car...in the learning phases.

Its all YOU, not the car.

you can probably find a used set of eibachs or hypercoils cheaper than waiting and incurring the cost of a second 4 wheel alignment. just a thought.

Another option is to do something like Mark Robinson's coilover conversion - either getting mounts from him or fabbing a set yourself. I've been pretty happy with the way its worked out for me.

The Sears warranty on alignment is not a bad deal - as long as you can keep them from unloading the suspension before alignment.

Go with Koni's and Eibachs or get Carl's kit for 2.5" springs ("Hypercoils").

I've got Koni's with stiffer 2.5" springs. You can tune it to how your want it to feel for spring rate and rebound. Fun!

Now that Carl has dropped the price by $1900.00, they are looking more like a bargain.

Those are different kits.

The link I gave is to off-the-shelf Koni's with Hypercoils and adapters for those springs.

Carl sold me the adapters to use with the Koni's I had and the whole thing worked out well.
