Rear ended UPDATE: PICS

Screw the car, your okay and that's all that matters.
Now for the insurance part of it. If you have a stated value policy and the car is not economically repairable, your gonna get the policy limits that you agreed upon when taking out the policy. Sounds like the car is repairable though.
Go to a doctor to be on the safe side.

What You Should Know > STATED AMOUNT / VALUE
This form of policy is frequently and easily misunderstood.
It is often used on collector car policies. Most insurance agents typically represent it as being the same as "Agreed Amount." It is not! The "Stated Amount" form states the insurance company will pay the lesser of:
1.The Stated Amount or
2.The cost to repair the covered auto not to exceed the "Stated Amount" or
3.The "Actual Cash Value"
The "Stated Amount" helps determine the premium cost.
It does not guarantee you a settlement amount that reflects the value of the car when a loss occurs. The "Actual Cash Value" language allows the claims adjuster to settle your loss for an amount less than the "Stated Amount"...."
In simple terms, Stated Amount just makes your premiums higher and makes you feel better and you agent makes more money UNTIL you have a major claim !

Also glad to hear your o.k. I wish you luck in dealing with the insurance folks. Ditto to going to after-care to keep a record of any soreness that may develop over the next few days. you have survived my nightmare.

I got rear ended yesterday. The guy that hit me was doing over 50, and I don't know how bad my car is damaged. He was driving a saburban, and it's frontend is crushed! I took pictures, but don't know how to post them from my phone. I've got hagerty, so we'll see how they do. I think my shark is a total loss.
Ahh Nooo that is terrible. I hope you are alright and I would get checked out because you could be paying some bone snapper bills so I would not sign for a few weeks.
I always tell them replacement value (what ever it cost to replace)
Joe did you get pictures in a profile over on 928OC so that we have a memory. It was such a nice car.
what was her name?

Glad hear the 928 did its job of protecting you as best a car can, but like others have said, give it some time before deciding how good of a job of protection it did.
There are at least two levels of expertise in drive data recovery, the pro's that charge $500 to $1k can recover almost everything unless the internal platters have a LOT of physical damage. Don't take no for answer at the Geek Squad level.
Forum members have some awesome resources for body work, Dan's guy was even able to acquire a proper alignment jig. I'd listen to what some pro's have to say, do get it out of impound asap, but my own preference would be to find a straight original car and move stuff over as appropriate.
Good luck.
Bet you scared the crap out of the suburban driver.

Glad you are OK,
As an '87 that is going to be close to totaled. It's hard to tell for sure until it is taken apart. Sorry but the bumper cover alone and shocks retail and hatch together are 1/2 the cost of the repairs that I see in your 1st pic/post. Adding in lenses and labor will push you over most insurers limits for the car. I hope I am wrong but I am thinking that I am closer to right.
You would be better off taking an adjusted check from the insurance Co. and fix it with used parts without any retail markups.
Good luck and glad everyone is OK.

Thats a bummer,
I hope that your injuries heal quickly.
For the car the hit isnt bad from the pictures,
but a removal of the rear wheels would be a good idea ,
as well as removing the spare to see if it is still a square hole.
If you were hit at 50 MPH the doors and roof would have been buckled ,
and the rear end would be bent down over the rear wheels.

Holy That sub really took a beating.
Your car looks not bad but you need to get it to a specialty shop that can laser measure your suspension and check to see if the frame twisted.

The bulged quarter and out-of-alignment wiper cam has me concerned with hidden damage of the unibody/frame type.
I hope your body (person) has not sustained any hidden damage and you have a quick recovery in all aspects!
Wishing you the best Joe!
