What is the difference between the Euro heads and the US heads. I understood for the 78-79 and non S cars the engines were all the same. The difference in horsepower between the two cars was a result of a cat being installed on the US cars.

Am I wrong here?

US is 41mm valves and Euro is 43mm for intake, and the exhaust is also 2mm larger on Euro, iirc.

from what I recall the Euro S used 45mm intake and 40mm exhaust valves....all USA version used 43mm intake and 38mm exhaust valves.... I also remember that the Euro S head flows around 212cfm vs maybe 185cfm from the USA head

i think the heads from early euro and US cars were the same, it was the cams that made the difference.

Remember that we aren't talking about Euro S parts. We are talking about 78-79 parts. The 78-79 Euro and U.S. heads and cams were the same. 78 cams are an upgrade for anyone running newer U.S. cams. Especially the 80-82 version.

Ducman, you can verify this by measuring the diameter of the valves in your heads. You have these 78 heads, you have some Euro S heads and you also have some U.S. heads in your knocking engine. Please measure all three and post your findings here.

If thats the case, these heads you have aren't 78-79 heads or someone swapped in the larger valves. The 78-79 valves were 43mm & 38mm stock. This listing at 928 International should also prove that the valves in the 78-79 heads were the same for US and Euro. Note that the Euro valves are listed 80-85 and the other smaller valves ( US and early euro ) are listed as 78-84.

348 casting number is the Euro S head, 211 and 212 grind number on the cams are Euro S. What the cam carrier is doesn't matter AFAIK, and the gears are, well I can't tell from the picts 100% but they look round tooth.
