Ok. So I have finally set about checking and adjusting ride height as required. My S4 MY89 has had the original dampers replaced with Koni Reds. In the rear I can adjust and I can see the threaded sleeve on which the collar adjusts. HOWEVER, on the fronts (also Koni Reds) I have the collars but am unable to see any threaded sleeve on which to adjust the height via the collar. Its asd though the dampers were replaced without any threaded sleeve and then the collars just sitting there doing no adjustment. My front ride height (original springs) is around 145-150mm. I am seeking to adjust to normal factory specs (175mm all round). I have removed the front wheels and using a c-spanner have attempted to adjust by making 8 complete turns on each collar thinking this will adjust up by about 1 inch (25mm). But there appears to be no adjustment either way. Does someone have a pic of a Koni red with height adjustment collar. Can someone confirm that I should be able to see a threaded sleeve with some thread above and below the collar?? Thanks in advance Tony

The nut on the front is different than the rear, so you're probably not seeing the threaded sleeve that's on the shock. See pics below from when I did my 84. It is possible the threaded sleeve is spinning on the shock and that's why you're not seeing any movement; but, I wouldn't give up yet. I think the threaded sleeve has to be there otherwise the nut would just slide down the shock.

Hi, Many thanks for the pics. However I am still unclear about the steeve. I cvan see the threaded collar but it's not clear to me where the sleeve sits and how long this threaded sleeve actually is. I am unable to identify the sleeve from your pics. You may well be right that the sleeve may be turning with the collar. This thought did cross my mind. How do suggest resolving this without having to remove the damper and coil? Cheers Tony

the sleeve is a threaded ring about 25 mm high it is pressed onto the shock tube you will have the best luck moving it with the suspension unloaded,
If the sleeve is in fact turning with the outer collar,
then you will have to remove the shocks and coils and then remove the sleeve,
clean it ,
make sure the threads are clear,
put grease/antiseize mix onto the threads,
and use some green locktite on the sleeve to glue it into place,
then let it cure for 24 hours prior to refitting for best results.

Tony – I hate to show you carnage, but… I had a sleeve seized to the nut and it just spun on the shock. I could not get the sleeve out of the nut--period. Heat, cold, soaking in weasel ****, PB blaster, you name it… Anyway, I bought a used nut and sleeve from 928 Intl (pretty cheap) so for fun, I cut the old one out with a Dremil (what you see in the picture.) Hopefully, yours is not seized and your project of wanting to adjust ride-height doesn’t creep into removing shocks/springs, etc.
Keep cranking; you’re probably fine and just haven’t seen the sleeve protrude yet. And like Mr. Merlin said and I show in my previous picture, use anti seize on those threads. Good luck!
