Provent is not a 928 specific filter system, you can buy them everywhere. DR's set up is cool since it is engineered to work with the 928. I've had a customer who's had it on order from him for a year or so and since it seems to not be available, a few of us have had to make up our own.

A year? Hmmm, very strange.

Where else can I buy one?

Thanks.

^^^ Was thinking the same thing. I see on e-bay, there's six Provent 200's available in Dallas for $150 ea. I think that's the size Rob Edwards said he's using on his setup in the SharkVent thread.

Everyone's been making up their own thing and experimenting as to what works best for them. A customer and I have been working up a more complicated system that does not vent to atmosphere where as a few others have done very similar to DR's. Hermans takes it to a whole new level on the plumbing.

As Bruce said, you can get the Provents off e-bay, the guy who is selling those is local and where we've been sourcing our Provents.

$150 is a good price, that's about as low as they go, new.

Rob you very right with your question my motor mounts do have lots of spring left and it was a concern of mine but the pipe is joint by a flexible hose on the PS breather and a flexible hose coming from the top of the oil filler neck the pipe is not on any fixed mount on the cam cover it more or less float on the (3) hose connections (including the short one at the Provent in)

The one displayed here looks home-made - possibly based on the original Provent?
I went to visit the place in Dallas ( Republicsales.com )they are they main dealer for MANN-HUMMEL (=Provent mfg) and a very large Turbine/turbo supplier repair place to all kinds of industry they are the same outfit that advertises them on e-Bay

Yes, just like Porsche did with the 928 home made

Yes, a good price the are the main dealer in the USA and I'm sure they make some money as well. I tried for 2 years to buy from an East coast source but never got an answer.

I made my own version of this for a few bucks of aluminum. A competitors web site had one cut open...just a tube inside a tube..inside a tube with some baffles and holes drilled. Been on my car for about 8yrs...i vent to the atmosphere via a tap on the exhaust after the cats.

I've been looking at the Sharkvent, DR's is pricey, but he has thought it through: mounts to the engine. He provides an Extreme model w/1 inch piping and venting through 1" hole drilled into oil filler neck, he provides a plug for same when adding oil. Seems to me this is customizing for our cars that the "one size fits all" approach of the Provent does not. Any comments from other pros (that would not include me) out there?

It's already been said, DR's is a great set up, you just can't get it.

Where is the ProVent's drain going? Do you have a Y in your oil dipstick tube?

Considering that DR offers a “ONE SOURCE” complete package and his business needs to make a profit I don’t think his is pricey.

I for one didn’t want to drill a hole in the oil filler neck for the following reasons;

1. Cumbersome and slow filling of the oil with the plug to be inserted.
2. On the GTS the factory design has a filler neck with (2) venting outlets located near the oil filler cap the hose connection on the left side of the cap (18-20mm originally ran to the “Y” after the MAF) and only has an internal opening of 5mm, the hose connection on the right side of the cap measures 8mm and runs to the charcoal filter) it only has an internal opening of 2mm. So when you drill a 1 inch =25mm and create a path from there to Provent in and after that the Provent goes out to the atmosphere you have created a whole different flow pattern and subsequent related crankcase pressure than the original design by Porsche.
3. In my case the vents size in the oil filler neck remain at 5 and 2 mm ( as per Porsche design for flow and pressure coming from the crankcase) the oil/oil vapor coming from the PS aft vent out now flows to the Provent where its scrubbed free from oil before its return to the “Y” after the MAF again this follows the same path as per factory design but now incorporating the Provent oil separator.

My objective was to keep the same design for the path breathing of the engine as it was designed by the factory but modifying it by scrubbing the oil/oil vapors before they are returned to the intake.

The attached picture (open Provent with looking inside at the top of the filter) is from today I had to step on it hard a couple of times to keep a late model year 911 in its right place (BTW NO PROBLEM). Total miles since install are 95 and as you can see a very small puddle of oil has just entered the Provent.

If this is all I get I may not need to further expand the design more miles will tell.

Yes, I’m using a “Y” and a check valve before the oil dipstick I was fortuned that Roger did have an extra one on hand.

Thank you Roger
