Brian, I have to say I love that crazy A$$ yellow car!!! I'd love to put something crazy like that in my garage!
Chris, a guy here in Austin did a renegade kit... came out really nice but took A LOT of tweaking to make it all work well together! That said, it is still probably the easiest way to do this conversion.

Thoughts on Hybrids
Last November, I was back stateside and went to Vegas for the NHRA race. Yeah, I like drag racing,,,,,,the smell of nitro in the morning.
Been meaning to do this for a long time, so I scheduled a little shop tour over at Renegade Hybrids. Really classy, friendly folks there. The LS conversions look so clean you almost think someone had it in mind all along. Got to ride in one conversion that was nearly completed, and all I can classify it as was incredibly scary fast. And completely something I want to do with my 79 928.
I think if folks are really into the restoration, 100% purity stuff, then a hybrid ain't for you. But I know how much fun it was riding in that crazy fast hybrid was in Vegas. If the choices are crusher ('cause it needs so many expensive parts to get running again) or conversion, I'd say go the conversion route.
Yeah, the whole hybrid thing is blasphemy to a lot of Porshephiles. Then again, I remember in the early 80's when I got my 928, that a water-cooled Porsche was blasphemy too.
I say to heck with it all, its your money, it takes too damn much hard work to make money any more. Spend it like you want, and have fun with the car.

the green one is mine!
Hi Seb and others,
I own the green 78 euro 5 speed (9288101829) with the 95 vette LT1 in it.
I have posted here a few time about the car and defending my heathen actions.
I bought the car in 2004 from a friend and it had a blown engine with only 55k original miles on it. I really did not start the conversion / restoration till 2006. I finally got it all working and restored in 2009. Since then its been my daily driver here in our nations capitol.
I used the Renegade kit and that only gets you 80% done. The other 20% you have too fabricate and figure out on your own.
I found the old Renegade web board to be very useful during my build. In those days Robert Buds car was the poster child for 928s converted to cheve power. The 924/944 guys with conversions were also very helpful with engine issues and some 3rd. party parts people that understood what we were doing.
if you go to the Renegade web site now they show about 20 street cars that have been converted and i bet there is an other 5 cars out there like mine that are not in their gallery. Then there must be about 5 track cars out there also.
I love the car, its fun to drive and still fun to work on. I am happy to share the things i learned during my build with others.

I put a Chevy 327 in a '62 Jaguar XKE Roadster, no regrets.
If the engine in my 928 took a big dump it would have been replaced with a Chevy.
The cost of Porsche and Jaguars parts sucks big time.

I was cruzin thru Ebay about 2 years ago and there was one of the sweetest 928's I have ever seen. it had a 454, willwood brakes, and so on, it looked as though no expense was spared. what a dream car that would be. I have no clue what it went for but I still think of that damn car all the time.

The car with the Chevy Big Block 454 was converted by a friend of mine in the Greenville SC area. He came over to my garage, looked at how my 928 was converted to a 350 small block. Within 6 weeks he had his 454 928 running with a Mega-Squirt fuel injection. I also thought it was interesting that he redrilled the bolt circle on the spindles to use the more available and less expensive Corvette wheels. He took it to the track several times for PCA DE events....and as usual...no issues....and it ran great. The car was sold to someone in the New Jersey ??? area and then I think it was sold again on Ebay.

I dont know all i know is it was 9 out of 10 condition. Hey Lloyd what did he get for it if you dont mind. It seemed like he wanted 40ish or so he never listed a price but it seemed like the reserve was high based off his description. It would be cool if Lloyd could post picks to make sure it was the same car.

The 454 car I was referring to was an early 1986 car with the Prussian Blue color (kind of medium blue-gray). My friend sold it for around $10-$12,000. That was probably back in 2006-2007. The engine fit under the hood like an S4 engine, snug...he built some headers for it. I had the opportunity to purchase it for $9000, but realized that my life span would have been dramatically reduced. The car had almost too much torque!!

The extra rear weight helps for rear drive traction and offsets the efffects of weight transfer under hard braking both very good things ! And taking weight off anywhere will improve acceleration, braking, and cornering. Less total mass to move around.
