Default Stuck on side of road again...

Stupid throttle rod that connects with ball joints came off at the intake butterfly, how handy.... I found that it is a real PITA to put it back together again so I'm gonna tow it home and top end refresh it. One question, why cant I push the butterfly all the way open? I push down on it or I can grab the "****" on the intake side of the throttle and it only opens 1/8 inch and acts like its hitting something?

Check the radiator hose clamp. After I did my Timing Belt I had to realign the clips. On the 86 the throttle rods can rub or snag on a misaligned clamp.

I had the same problem with mine at first. The dynamics of the thing seems to push the rod out to the passenger side, then pull it to the front. I hate the design. I put about 1/8" spacer between the fan housing and my throttle quad plate. This moved the tower back just enough to give me a better angle. It could still be done better, it was just the best I could get it with the current design. Maybe our buddy Ken could spend a little time on this. Also, I found that If I flipped the rod and put the end from the throttle tower onto the TB, it got a much better connection and would not pop off. It has worked well because the other end has never come off either. Makes and adjustment a PIA but how often do you have to do it. If you find a better solution, please share it as I wold love to improve mine. I an mext to positive that there is no way that I am ever getting full throttle.

On a friend's 928 once the throttle cable snapped while we were on the road. I managed to tie some lamp electrical cord to the throttle and actuate it through the open window from inside the car. It was interesting to drive like that. This was on an '83, so it may be more difficult on a 32v. If that doesn't work, worst case since it's a 5-speed you can just shift gears and use the idle control to keep the car running. Idling in 5th gear should get you home eventually.

"I managed to tie some lamp electrical cord to the throttle and actuate it through the open window from inside the car. It was interesting to drive like that." As in, "may you live in interesting times." Which I understand is a Chinese curse...

If even one of the three MAF/TB housing rubber isolators has separated, then the TB will move around.

Always replace all three if you have the intake off.
