Chevron. all cars, all the time.

one thing to note is the concentration of the Techron. look at the pump and see the higher the octane, the higher the concentration of the good stuff.:

87 +Techron
89 +Techron
91 +TECHRON

adding a bottle to the tank now and then helps too...

Costco, Kroger 87 if I am close to home or Wawa or Sheetz 87 if I am on the road. (Whatever is cheapest and most convenient.) My 83 runs the same (great) on any gas. Like with oil, I do not believe it matters. All of my cars end up with 200 plus K using this simple philosophy.

Any one use octain boost if so what amount for each rating. At what point is it cheaper to buy 87 and add boost or pay over 4.00 per gal?

Octane boosters are POINT increases.

87 to 87.1, 87.2...

How many dozens of cans do you wanna buy for a $0.10/gal difference?

Unless you get someone else to buy different brands and you do not know what you are burning personal testimonials are WORTHLESS ! Blind testing is a must to be meaningful. Millions and millions in advertising has managed to convince many that there are differences, so it must be true

I think bad gas is often the fault of the retailer or his supplier moreso than the brand, though there could be trends/tendencies that come up with particular stations in any given area. I had been buying based on the least-worst environmental track record. This thread prompted me to do a quick search- I didn't realize that Chevron was US. Now that I know, I'll make a point of seeking it out- thanks!

I always fill up with Chevron - we have 94 octane with no ethanol.

Too bad this topic was not a poll asking something like "I pay more for Brand Gas because it is better" vs "All gas is the same so I save money buying generic"

Given that there are a limited number of refineries delivering product through a limited number of transport methods to a limited number of storage facilities that is delivered to all of the service stations in the same trucks, I believe that all gas is the same and no brand is any better than a generic.

The only difference as to where gas is purchased is due to the integrity of the station's tanks for impurities and the sales volume for freshness.

Ethanol is a curse because it reduces MPG's and costs more to produce per BTU value. Six percent is the most allowed by law but pumps are labeled 10% for a safety factor.

My two cents.

I used to work as 3rd mate aboard a product tanker for Unocal. We would carry every grade of fuel, from crude oil to straight MTBE and everything in between. Most trips would be between Unocal refineries, but not uncommon to take a load of gasoline/diesel/etc to Chevron or Shell refineries (and vice-versa). Basic formula all the same, so the gas at Chevron may have been produced by Unocal, etc, etc. But as most have posted here, each refinery eventually puts in their own additives.

BTW, MTBE=nasty stuff.
