$2k isn't enough to cover normal maintenance, but a good place to start. Get it running 100% in factory condition before trying any modifications or plan of some expensive and needless trouble shooting.

MSD is IMHO worthless on a stock car, and a frequent source of problems.

S4 headers use a different bolt pattern, but headers are made that fit the 16v, most common upgrade is to US 85/86 exhaust manifolds.

Heads, valves, cams, and intake system are all limited on the early cars, not much point in changing just one link in the chain, but some have done it.

Early cars have brains with no tuning capacity, so best to leave it alone once working properly, so no adjustable fpr.

Good high flow exhaust systems can help, plus when its louder it may seem more powerful.

One of the basic reasons the early cars are so cheap is that they have less power and no easy or cheap way to increase it.

MSDS headers and a good cat back exhaust will get you a solid 30whp. Get the car running correctly and do that. MSD box and light weight flywheel will do very little.

with all 928 performance upgrades the #1 thing to do is make sure yours is running 100%!!!!

My 1984 4.7L racer responded VERY well to just free flow exhaust.....I gained 20hp-torque just from a proper 3.5" single exhaust...plus it sounds better too

If yours is a 5 speed and runs well with a proper exhaust (no cat) you can get at least 225whp or about 265 crank HP.....

Euro top end is the way to go.....or a 5.0L conversion... Euro top end on 5.0 bottom end is good for about 300whp or 350 crank hp....
