Hi everyone, I'm looking for a set of springs for my '86 S3. I heard a while back that some Eibachs had been manufactured and that there might be a few sets floating around out there that someone didn't use and might part with?
I know there are options to use Hypercoils provided I use adapters and I'd like to see if there was an option to go this route first.
I'll be putting new BOGE's on at the same time. This car isn't a racer, I'll be enjoying the highways and interstates with her but 26 year old springs just aren't working, she's floating around like the Love Boat out there![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Anyone with recommendations / suggestions or better yet, a set of Eibachs or other new springs are welcome to reply and thanked in advance.
Thanks everyone

I would say it is probably the old oil only Boge's that are giving you the wallowy ride. With the adjustable ride height on our cars you can adjust the spring tension by turning the collers if the car is riding too low. I swapped my springs over to my new Boge's and the ride was improved a lot.

There are a few threads on the Eibachs with Boges. My initial impression with that setup was that there was too much compression damping and not enough rebound damping in the Boges. The ride was quite harsh compared with the factory spring setup. The Boges have softened a little on compression so the ride isn't so bone-jarring, but the rebound is still under-damped.
SoCal 928 Guru Greg Brown mentioned that he takes more Eibachs out than he puts in. You might want to review some of the previous discussion (search is your friend), and possibly contact him for some used/removed Eibach springs. New sets come from 928 International, and the last sale had them at a very good price.

Hi everyone, appreciate the comments and the lead on search; I've done a couple of them, it sounds like I just didn't have the right keywords in so I'll give it another go.
Hmm...interesting..sounds like quite a few folks don't think 26 year old springs are an issue...I'm certainly open to just throwing some new struts on it; to be perfectly honest, I really have no idea how long a set of springs on these heavies should last.
She's never been in any accidents or anything, the ride is nice and cushy, which I kind of want to keep; I have a 996 with Bilstiens when I want to drive a race car; this is for lean-back-and-keep-stupidly-looking-for-my-damn-cupholder roadtrips, which is how I love to get to my vaca destinations.
It is also sounding like if I go with springs, the Eibachs might not be the best choice...maybe a set of Hypercoils at 350-F / 250-R with adapters and some new BOGE's might give a more agreeable ride?
I'm thinking if the patient is open, put the springs on at the same time...not much difference in labor there; so its the cost of the springs...I just don't want to over-firm it; so its gonna be kind of a balancing act I guess...
Any feedback is very welcome; the name says it all. This thing was made when I was a teenager and was on my list of cars to have if $ was no object and I fell into this one so I'm learning as I go, and trying not to **** my mechanic off too much![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Thanks.

Depends which springs the car had installed.
My wife has an 86 with original springs. They are green stripe. Instead of the stiffer 3 blue stripe.
With its tired boges, it floats like a buick.

if you are only using the car for street driving i would suggest to use Boges and stock springs
UNLESS you prefer a hard ride all the time
There is a reason why Greg B. takes off more fancy spring upgrades than he installs and its not because the aftermarket springs are better

Well I don't want a hard ride all the time; I'm fine with firming it up some but I don't want a 911 level firmness. Can anyone comment on if they've done the Eibach/BOGE set up and whether that felt OK? I did talk with Roger at 928srus and he did comment that Eibach/Bilstein did firm the ride up for him a little more than he wanted and he was thinking about going to put BOGE's on to soften it down some.
Also, I'm going to search around to see if I can find on the forum, but if anyone has the Eibach front/rear rates handy I'd appreciate![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Thanks again everyone for the great help. She's also getting paint so i'll post some pics when Humpty's all put back together again.

I'm even thinking of giving mine a stripper name..something really sleazy like COMES FOR MONEY
...but spelled the other way (I don't want to get hollered at so you'll all just have to use your inner blogs to read it the other way ).

Eibach spring rates,
Front 399-559
Rear 285-372
You should go with Koni shocks set soft with Eibach springs. IMHO Koni shocks are built better than Boge's (Bilstein is best)
I have a new set of Koni shocks and new Eibach springs for $1000+ the shipping cost if you are interested.

I'm getting really good at setting ride heights and doing my own laser alignments too. Always a learning experience...
