Stock vs stock 220hp 951 is not that far off from 5sp 928 S4. Though 928 is clearly faster its not much quicker up to around 100mph.

top speed: 152
0-60mph: 6.1
1/4 mile: 14.4
1km: 26.0
928 S4 5sp

Had both a Turbo S and a 90 GT at the same time and auto crossed them both on the track in the videos above. The Turbo S was 2 seconds a lap faster than the 90GT, which was 2 seconds again faster than any of the other cars including a supercharged RS America (very light with lots of hp).

I've have stock 951's, modded 951's, bolt-on 951's. I've had stock 928's, SC 928's, & turbocharged 928's.
My 944TS is my daily driver, averaging 20mpg on 285's & an aggressive tune @ 18psi. Weighs 2980lbs (scale-verified), dyno's about 300/320rw. Very few mods to get to this HP/TQ range. It's extremely comfortable, very "light" to drive, & requires little/no maintenance over the 928.
My 928's are either tuned or turbocharged: Tuned, the 928 can't match/catch the 944T. Turbocharged, the story is quite different as a turbo 928 is one HELL of a fun ride. On boost, people are amazed the 944 is a 4 cylinder. On boost, people are amazed the 928 turbo is not a 12 cylinder as it sounds like an angry Lamborghini & pulls like a bull.
I well tuned, sorted 944 turbo will out maneuver, out accelerate, outrun most 928's. Same brakes, much lighter, much more nimble.
Maintenance: about the same: once you buy your car, sort it out, get it up to snuff. I've gone years without opening the hood(s) on either cars.
20mpg is crappy for a 4 cylinder, but I've never done better than 16-17 in a 32v 928 in the city.
Long road trip?? Take the 928, mileage is the same & the car IS more luxurious. Paul Champagne will be updating my 951 this year.
City commuting?? Take the 951: parts are cheaper, easier to find, mileage is better, a much lighter-feeling car is less fatiguing on misc. trips.
928 is a wonderful flagship Porsche. 951 is an incredibly-performing Porsche. You gotta drive both.

Make no mistake, I own both: love both. Love my modified 911 turbo as well: All are COMPLETELY different cars, yet lovable all the same.
Now, why the hell do I have 4 RED, turbocharged Porsche's in my garage?? :/

Thank you to everyone for their input. I was advised that forum members with Rennlist 928 were very friendly and helpful. The more I look at the 928, the more I really want one. I have to test drive one. Like my 944, but really really like the way the 928 looks. Such a classic, yet modern look. Once again Thank You to everyone for their help.

okay....this is a 928 forum....so its safe to say most answers are going to be pro 928....I am sure the 944-951 forum will be the same way.....
The 944 is much lighter.....it will feel more nimble.....however it IS a low compression turbo motor (think old school turbo design..worlds worse than modern turbos today)....so at low rpm its gonna have serious lag...just look at the dyno sheets of any 951 thats modified....they only show high rpm...say 4k+....because at 3k its 1/2 the torque, or maybe less.... a power curve that gains HP and torque at the same time is quite exicting to drive...the rush of boost coming on is quite fun.....BUT that is not what the 928 was designed to do.....
the 928 was designed to be effortless......effortless speed and power....which is why it has twice the engine of a 944 with lots of bottom end torque....
another aspect I prefer about the 928 is its suspension.....true coil overs at every corner.....no truck-ish torsion bars......its also a bigger wider car...so it can fit wider tires easier.....
just ask the Lotus Elise Racer (2100lbs 160whp) that I beat on Saturday in my 3050lb 198whp 928.....why.....TORQUE.....coming off corners at the same speed.....the second I hit the gas...BOOM a gap for me.... my 15.4 power to weight 928 should have no chance against the 13.2 lotus....

The 944 turbo and 928 are both great cars and completly different. If you are looking for a car that is faster than your current NA 944, I would also look at Boxsters...They are really cheap right now and very reliable.

I appreciate all the information. I am like the robot in the movie - "Short Circuit". More info.... More info please.... I am really enjoying reading everyone's comments on their experiences of the 928. I am really leaning towards the 928. I really like the looks of the car with the access to the power of a V8.
