Starter Cable Routing
#7
Thanks Rob. I think I have the "through the timing cover to the 14 pin" correct. It's the starter to the timing cover hole I am not so sure of. The PO's "mechanic" was a little creative at times. I have what seems like an extra 1-2 feet of harness on the driver side of the engine. It is handy when dropping the alternator but just doesn't seem to fit the "CTO" nature of the rest of the car.

Ah. That 'extra' harness does sort of a doubling back, behind the alternator so there's enough slack that you can drop the alternator. It's held on the back of the alternator by a yellow plastic harness loop WIth the caveat that I'm not 100% sure it's routed exactly right, this is what it looks like:
And here's the whole FOE (front of engine) harness. You can see the Norma clamp just below the branch to the oil pressure sender, that's the clamp to the block as it passes through the opening in the TB cover. Below that is the branch to the back of the alternator, you can see how it has a natural 'fold' in it- that's the extra that gets tacked to the back of the alternator shroud.
FWIW, below that is the black sleeved portion- that part ends up running just above the engine crossmember, through the triangle made by the crossmember and the bracket to the upper control arm bolt. People forget to un-string this part of the harness through that space before pulling the engine...
One more shot to (sort of) show more routing:
