Hello all now mark Kibort and iceman already know I've asked this question by txt but I'll ask it here. My cousins want to maybe to track racing and they think the new v6 camaro and 05' mustang v6 will have better lap time then my s4 v8, now I know it depends on driver and wheather with tires but overall won't a 24 year old car still have the power and dicpline to make their jaws drop?

I dunno.
Will you?
Car dont move with no driver.
A good driver can take a bone stock beat up overheating mid 90s mustang, and out lap an OK driver in a Z06 vette.
Talent comes in all sizes.
But...yes, the V6's are good, but no torque..no upper end really...comparably.
Either way, they still drive home in a base model coupe.

Maybe the basics of the Camaro and Mustang have improved a HUGE amount since my 91 Mustang, but when I was looking pretty hard at making my Mustang go faster it seemed much more practical to start with an old 928 if I wanted to brake and turn instead of just drag racing.

The Mustangs that are fast at our local events are either hopped up V8's, i.e.. Snakes or Roush. Or totally stripped down track monkey's with lots of suspension, diff, and brake upgrades.
The guy with the totally stripped down Mustang removes a headlight for his cold air intake. And then needs race rubber to compete with my GTS lap times.

A semi-pro or pro driver in a stock Miata will spank a novice like us in an S4/GT on most tracks. ![Stick Out Tongue](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
The new Camaro has IRS and that V6 is putting out as much as V8's in the past. Curb weight on the Camaro is close to or a couple hundred over a 928 (depending on the trim level). Power is about the same. That should be a closer race.
The Mustang is still a solid axle and most do not spend the money for a proper 5-link (aka WATTS) rear end to make them handle. They have less power and about the same weight. You should dust him pretty easily.
The problem is, even if you beat both in any kind of race, be ready for "Wow, your big V8 Porsche just barely beat a couple of V6's"
EDIT - Reading comprehension fail - just saw it's an 05 Mustang..........you should lap him.

1987 S4:
3660 lbs
316 hp
If you end up racing a new V6 Mustang just pick track with a higher top speed than 113. They are governed to that so the driveshaft doesn't explode.

Probably. In the end it doesn't matter. All three cars have similar performance. Whoever is the better driver will make way more difference. I passed a Lotus Elise on track in my Audi A6 4.2. That should never be possible, except that guy sucked at driving.

This is really a non-answerable question since novice drivers will not be allowed to pass in the corners (I hope...). This means any advantage the 928 has will be irrelevant since you will need one hell of a run off a corner to pass down the straights.
Just because you can hang with him around the track doesn't prove anything.

the 05 V6 mustang has not chance against an S4 in ANYTHING.......the new Camaro V6 has a chance, but doesn't have the balance or torque of the 928S4 so it will lose too...
Since we are talking about "on track" meaning a road course....it really all comes down to driver....a decent driver in the crappy mustang will destroy rookie drivers in the camaro or S4.....however all 3 will get completely decimated by my 28 year old station wagon....by a grand canyon wide margin...but its not really fair to compare a built track car (even an insanly cheap one like mine) to a full street car...

Brian what have you done to your car to set it up for the track? I believe you stripped her down and have nice tires. Have you done anything to the suspension? I belive I read that you did some exhaust work that really helps the 16v breath better!
A list of things that you have done would be cool for newbies thinking about having fun on the track.
