Default Clutch Slave Question

First, I did search and read up on many of the clutch slave threads that are already posted, and saw several threads that were at least promising, but I'm thinking of a different approach here and wondered if anyone had ever tried it.

I just completed the re-assembly of the car after the TT R&R job (after several interesting side-adventures).

One issue remains... While adjusting the shift linkage, I inadvertently shoved the clutch 1/2 way to the floor... Of course, the clutch slave was still hanging under the car... It doesn't look like the slave guts came out, but the rod definitely only goes in about 3/4" max.

Question, does this require a slave teardown/rebuild?

Or could I use a couple of 100mm bolts carefully position the slave and the rod against the release lever and slowly press the slave back onto the bell housing with rod in place to reset the slave?

Ok, if it is harder than that, I have a problem that requires I take it off, tear it down, and reassemble?

You may be lucky and you can push it back together. You won't really know until you go to bleed it.

If you did any damage you would prob have fluid leaking from it, if not a puddle.

Perhaps you have too much preload at the master and the ports to the reservoir aren't exposed. That's been a problem for me and made the slave near impossible to push in.

I've popped the slave fully out. Just eased it back in. It's just a plunger with a seal in a tube. Nothing in there to hold it back except the fluid.

The piston in the slave cylinder is positively retained and won't come out without actual disassembly, and unless the seals have been blown (you would know by the puddle...), pressing the pedal down should not have caused any problem.

There is a spring in the slave cylinder (at least in mine...) that pushes the piston all the way out to the positive stop when the clutch rod is either removed or is not held compressed by the clutch release arm.

It takes a bit of effort to push the clutch rod in to the slave cylinder and fully bottom out the piston (make sure that the pedal is all the way up first), but pushing the rod all the way in and letting it extend by itself for several cycles seemed to be a good way of bleeding air from the lower lines as well as the slave cylinder.

This spring has to be held depressed somewhat in order to reassemble the slave cylinder and rod to the release arm. This is a little awkward, but less than a lot of other things on a 928...

Happy to report that with the rod against the release arm and inserted into the end of the slave cylinder, with steady pressure on the slave, I was able to get the slave to compress and attached it.

Everything works great! Didn't even have to bleed the clutch.

Tomorrow... 72 degrees and sunny. We drive!
