Friend of mine just put a fresh 350 crate in his El Camino. He added intake with throttle body injection for good gas mileage. Just basic as he didn't want to make a hot rod out of it. Dynoed it yesterday to get some numbers for tuning the FI, 180rwhp and 230ftlb running a little rich. Cost of engine, intake, FI was $1600.

There are lots of idiots that strip the injection off LS engines and put a carb on them. A carb and coil per plug ignition make me laugh. <facepalm>

RKD in OKC, 1600 bucks for that seems like a great way to get a cool car/truck back on the road. He will have some fun and should get 150k out of it easy if he maintains the engine.

I miss the low cost of american engines. Looking at a 95 Thunderbird SC w/ a 5spd to play with. Forged parts are cheap in comparisson. Still the 928 is worth every penny!

The 1982 Mustang GT just gave the illusion of power. They had 58/42 weight distribution, 2600 lbs, low gearing, and LSD. Even with only 157 hp they would go sideways and spin the tires through 2 gears easy. They were a handful to drive, so that gives the sense of performance I guess. I believe the official 0-60 time was 8 seconds, which by today's standards is about the same as a new 5 speed base Honda Civic!

My Toyota Sienna could take him. The late 70's and 80's were really bad years for Detroit

Cosmo,

I completely remember the monster Burnouts with those cars. My uncle was a Sales Manager for a Lincoln\Merc dealer back in 1983 and 1984. He came home with a demo one weekend of the Capri RS 5.0. Like this, but in the black and green color scheme with GT style ground effect kit.

That car would absolutely pour smoke off the rear tires, but was still a total o-60 slug. I remember beating the car for a whole weekend, and then having to help him clean the rubber goo off the rear diffuser\valance before he could take it back on Monday. Pity the fool that bought that car.

To be a glorified Fairmont.

TO be fair if you race him make sure you take the Right lane, and even let him get 'out of the hole' first. That way when you Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa past he can get a good earfull of your exhaust!

Ok, now it makes sense. He thinks your car has a 4 cylinder engine. That will be hilarious.
