Heat Shield
I spent a good part of the day cleaning up the heat shields that go on the cross member.
The backing of the heat shield is packed with glued in fiber glass with an aluminum foil coating. It does not take long before the backing gets messed up.
Are there any new products that can be used in insulate the heat shields? Also a recommendation on high temp glue would help. The old glue really sticks. Anything that holds up better to grease and water would be great.

I just did this yesterday - just cleaned the foil, then put the insulation back into the metal shell and bent the tabs down tight. I thought the fiberglass was stuck to my shells because of rust, not glue.
Trust me it was glued in with some pretty strong glue. I first dipped the shield in Muriatic Acid. That took the rust off but not the glue. For that I used some Jasco Adheasive removed.
I did find some self stick heat shield material. I think I will power coat the metal shield with high temp power coat and then apply the heat shield material. One side has an aluminum facing and it is rated to 2000 degrees. I will share how it works out.

Mine were too rusty to save, and the glassfibre had fallen off mostly.
I found some Aluminium heat shield material that has Alu both sides with insulation sandwiched in the middle - sort of difficult to describe but it sort of looks like aluminium bubble wrap about 3-4mm thick.

Secondskin Audio (US) also had materials for heat proofing firewalls and other susceptible areas, in trowel on and sheet. I've just tried their website but it's down or they're no longer in business.
Here's the link in case it magically starts working .... http://www.secondskinaudio.com/produ...Insulation.php
I purchased material from them a while back and they were good to do business with.
