Default Top Gear co-host crushes `79 928

The BBC has started a new tv show,

Mr. Hammond, 42, is the boyish third of the cast of the BBC’s car-obsessed “Top Gear.” He is here on a blazing September day, wearing a flight suit and learning to operate the Abrams tank for his new TV show, “Richard Hammond’s Crash Course.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/12/au...d.html?_r=1&hp

quote.."Mr. Hammond, along with Mr. Fox and the production crew, enjoyed the crushing of a 1979 Porsche 928, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle and a 1968 Ford Mustang with the Abrams tank. And there was particular satisfaction in destroying minivans during filming of “Crash Course” — a total of 15 across the episodes."

That has to be the stupidest car show in the history of TV. And Mr Hammond is the most incompetent of the three, which is saying a lot.

You obviously haven't seen very many cars shows.

I second that, and there is a reason why the north American version got canceled. It sucked as well.

And this show is by no means new.

Maybe, but I still enjoy watching it. Season 18 has been pretty good so far.

The NA version Season 2 was back yesterday.... same old funny stunts...but none of the new car/exotic car reviews.. I like it...(as well as the UK original version)...

Whatever. You're just mad because it was 79. If it was an 80, you would driven the tank.

Talk about jumping the shark...

I think this would have made a fun shootout between the 928, the Mustang, and the Chevelle. They could have taken them to dragstrip at least! I owned a Mustang and I can imagine their owners groups will be mightily pi**ed at this.

A tank running over stuff is dull to watch unless it's archival WWII film!

Richard Hammond actually has a 928 and is a huge Porsche fan. I hate seeing 928's get destroyed!

Yeah it sucks seeing any 928 destroyed, but Hammond is a big P-Car fan. And Top Gear is one show that my wife & I can enjoy together, I've even caught her watching it when I wasn't in the room. So any car show that gets my wife interested in it can't be all bad.

If she resents your 928 she might enjoy seeing one crushed.

I'll give the UK version a point or two for entertainment, and Top Gear has been complimentary to the 928. The tank stunt was just that, crush a few cars people are passionate about, get folks riled up. It works, it actually drives people to watch (oddly enough). I don't find much use for the show personally, except I did watch a marathon of it one day when I was sick as hell laying on the sofa.

The USA version was horrible. Three guys as far away from being "car guys" as could be. I'm not even certain they could drive a stick before it aired. It was sad to see something that could have been interesting become so irritating and stupid.
