Today I got my 86.5 back from Sean and it now feels like a sports car. He replaced the combo switch so the brights issue is fixed. He also put a new fuel pressure regulator. intake runners, and Porken chip. I smelled something funny when I pulled into the garage. It was the smell of burnt rubber.
Thanks Sean! Thanks Ken!
Next modification is the X-pipe and low flow cat!

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Oh I forgot to thank Roger. Thanks for the Fuel lines, FPR, combo switch etc. Drove the Boxster on Friday night to pick up my brother from the airport. Not ready to sell it yet, still love it. Totally different ride.

So where is the burnt rubber smell coming from? Hope it’s not a fuel hose against something hot and waiting to burst. I wouldn’t drive it any more if I were you.

I would be looking at a loose belt,
or the alternator or power steering pump belts rubbing on the return line from the radiator,
check the air pump belt as well.
inspect the timing covers see that they are fitted correctly,
and take a peek at the timing belt through the top holes see where its running on the pulleys,
if the front edge of the T belt looks polished i would remove the right hand timing cover and take a closer look.
Any chance you have rodents around the car?
Its possible they have munched the foam pad over the shifter and its now falling onto the heat shield and cooking

FWIW i did have an issue with my 88 .
I usually park the car in the garage with the hood open, anyway after a long drive i got back and opened the hood and after a few minutes I was smelling a fresh rubber burning smell.
I did a quick look see and didnt find anything that was amiss.
So i let it ride,
anyway after taking another ride i smelled the same fresh rubber burning smell when i got back,
I then looked closer at the T belt through the vent hole and noticed a shiny streak on the back of the timing belt, so off came the cover then it was confirmed there was something rubbing on the back of the belt WTF
Belt tension was a bit low but still in spec on the Kempf tool.
So i dug deeper the belt had been on the engine for all of 15k miles
Anyway what happened was that one of the bottom belt roller guides bearings was running rough, (both of them were replaced at the belt install) and the outside of the guide roller had a small edge on it .
so with the edge and the sticky bearing and slightly loose belt it was rubbing the guide roller just enough to have the edge start wearing a small gouge into the back of the belt, this was the burning smell
I have since replaced the belt and the waterpump with a fresh Laso and new belt and new guide roller bearings.
no more burning rubber.

Stan IS the man, and generally doesn't post something without a reason.
Though, since he sold me his "porkenized" car I think he's missing the rear tire burning in his life.
