I couldn't bring myself to pay more for a set of mirrors than my engine so I modded Tiburon Aero mirrors to the 944. They are heated even, although I haven't wired them. I would think the same adapter I made would mount to the 928?

Better off perhaps finding a wrecked GTS and scavenging the mirror set...

Try dismantlers like 928 Int'l, dC Automotive, Oklahoma Foreign, 20th Street Auto, etc. -cheaper too if you don't need the wiring harness.

BTW... got my new set -with wiring- off eBay in 2006 for ~$500. Not repops... all in Porsche boxes.

Here you go Tony... used from Germany (I think they are left hand drive in Germany):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-928-...item27c3291782

Under $600... change out mirror glass if needed.

Absolutely. And they are prolific. Or at least abundant.
Mirrors were an item on several of the other platforms I've owned/modified, and typically someone in the community was fabricating a serviceable aesthetic upgrade for a couple hundred bucks. And YES, some were low production cars- VR4 comes to mind.

A notion I tossed up years ago...someone should just make a mold cor a clip on or bond on teardrop cap that could be mated to the flag mirrors. Retains full functionality, updates look. I bet they would be mad sellers. Jerry?

Thanks, I'll run it by Herman K, he reads German. T

I just ordered another set of these from Sunset today. Their price did go up but not as much as you guys think. The new price is $616.16 for the complete kit including a million wiring pins, plugs etc, the bases, the housings, motors, mirrors etc. I bought these from Sunset about a year and a half ago and they were less that $500 if I remember correctly. The last time I did the install I used the motorsports Utah wiring adapter with built in super secret relay embeded in an epoxy so you can't see what it is or how it's wired. They didn't work ( although I haven't pulled everything back apart to find out why. It could have been my error ) so I'm not ordering them this time. "Tampa 928's" wired some up recently with his own method and they actually work so I'll call upon his expertise this time. But anyway, I digress. When I ordered the mirror "kit" last time I ended up with a whole lot of small pieces that weren't needed such as plugs and wire pins. I'm not sure how much these pieces add to the price but you might be able to order the mirror "kit" without these parts and save a little cash. It might be worth a shot. When I get time I'll try to dig out the box and list the part #'s I didn't use.

Glad this tread came up. Made me go pick mine up from the paint shop.

As I'm installing them, I can't seem to find a list of what wires go to what wires on the '88's. I can find early cars and 90-91, but nothing on the '88's. Anyone know of one?

IIRC, the 90-91's also had flag mirrors... so they should be the same?

I have been told it takes a lot of ingenuity/trial & error to figure which new wire performs the same function as the old wire (colors are different).

I left mine manual for that very reason...

Spent most of yesterday putting together some aero mirror kits.
Currently the 928 aero mirror kit sells from us for $598. Includes everything but the mirrors.
Go figure they supply an aero mirror kit with no mirrors.
The mirrors add another $180 to the price. So slightly less than $800.

I have put together a manual set for about $600 if any one is interested. All Porsche parts.

I am working on the set of 968 mirrors which are electric and I sell for $511 and they need the two 928 bases and gaskets. They still come complete with the mirrors. That adds about $100 but $200 cheaper than the 928 set.

I think Porsche will go the same way on all sets soon so grab them while you can.

Sean this is the installation instructions I used and worked OK. Mirrors work fine and temp sensor also. Shows wiring hookup for 88 included.

Roger, what makes them "manual"? Do you just leave out the motors and push the glass with your thumb or are is it a more elegant solution than that?
