Porsche Ignition Switch $85 SPECIAL
#17
Very handy item to have since it allows you to start any 928 anytime by simply pushing the cluster all the way up reaching under the pod to unplug the connector to the old switch and pull it down plug in the new switch and using a screw driver to turn the switch you have a running 928. Anyone's 928. You however can not turn the steering wheel so you probably will not drive far.

Everyone who buys a 928 should replace this part as soon as possible as they are responsible for so many problems and they do wear out.
BTW, I was going to buy a $135 part that was going to be horrible to replace (hall sensor) and Rog said, "You should check to to see that the flappy is working before you replace this sensor." I did, and the flappy is not working. Rog could have just sold me the part and let me go through some Hell replacing it...but he didn't.
I'm serious about the ignition switch. Both 928s that I bought gave me fits until I traced the gremlin problems to this switch. And, since you may have to remove the pod to get to it (I did the first time), it's a good time to replace bulbs in dash, make sure all wiring connections are good, etc.

Are you guys talking about the ignition switch or the harness connector behind the switch? My car cuts out while driving and I then just turn the key off and on again to restart?

It's the electrical part. It connects between the car side harness and the steering column.

We did some work on Toms car last year right before SITM, we had done a solid weeks worth of work on it, drove it into the shop running fine, got the AC system done and then it would not start, turns out the switch went bad, all at once, no warnings at all.
