Default Cam timing

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of my winter project waiting for my intake and cam covers to get back from the powder coater. I just installed new cam gears and timing belt and need to do a precision timing with the valve covers off. I was wondering if anyone had a factory dail indicator tool that I could borrow? I would gladly leave a deposit with you. I was thinking about buying a set up for myself, but I could put that money to good use buying a Porkens timing tool so I can set my baseline to be able to check the timing in the future with the cam covers on.. If anybody has one for sale I would be interested in buying it.

Thanks
Heres a few pics of my progress

Just use Porkens 32vr.

Since you are using the Kemph tool for belt tension, you are going to want that all the way to the tight line of the window, tension wise. If not, you will end up with belt loose warnings.

The engine looks good, well done.

Hey, you are doing a great job. Sean is spot on. Porken's new tool along with his timing set is just the thing. I am finishing up with my engine rebuild on an 86.5. I also was concerned about the exact timing. I bought Ken's tool and timing kit and it was easy. I now have mine exact as it can be. Since it is a new belt, I am not going to try to advance any yet to move some hp lower in the rev band...

Best of luck,

The V2 (and V1 w/alignment tool) PK32V'r has been proven to be comparable, if not better, to the dial indicator method.

A new belt makes using the dial indicator a wash, anyway. A new belt will stretch to make about 2° retard on the 1-4 bank.

If using the PK32V'r with a new belt, set both sides to 0°, cold.

^^^^ How much is the accompanying PKBumpStick? I didn't see it on Sir Tyson's website. Looks like a great tool to adjust the cams.

Engine looks great! New cam gears = Porsche ****.

Ok Thanks, I will tighten the belt to the far side of the window. I figured I would set it in the middle, but I didnt figure in the fact it is a new belt. As for the PK32V'r I'll take one. I have been reading up on them, and I'm glad to hear it can replace the dial indicator method. By the way I am very happy with the "Lift bars" you make, Porkens. Very Handy! How do I get one of your timing tools?

Thanks every one

PS. Is the orange tape on the liftbars suppose to be in the front?

"It doesn't matter when it's Arcturian, baby!" - Aliens

The Liftbar pin can go in at either end. The orange tape indicates the front fender | door seam, though. It approximates the alignment of the bar to the pads when you roll it under the car.

Roger at 928sRUs or Carl at 928 Motorsports both sell the 32V'r - links to them, and manuals, here - http://porken.com/

Roger stocks the Bumpstick, as well, which makes light work of adjusting the cams ($65, IIRC).
