These pumps require quite a bit of current and it is feasible that your wiring is getting hot and the pump could be getting marginal current.

The other thing that you need to think about is if you really "need" all the trouble that a 044 pump brings? The stock pump will "support" a minimum of 380rwhp (through an automatic) and 425rwhp (through a five speed.)

Real horsepower.....not "dream-o-meter" horsepower.

Not many 928s are actually making that kind of power.

The other kit is a complete wiring kit (with instructions) that will allow you to add a relay. Others must also sell kits to "swap" the 044 pump into a
928, also.

Check with Roger at 928's R US or with 928 International. Both of those companies distribute my products, or might have their own installation "kits".

I think someone really gave you poor advice. Running that huge pump, for a stock application, is way more overkill than anyone should ever do. If you have an unused pump, I'd suggest that you ask the supplier if you could exchange it for a "stock" style pump that will run with the stock wiring...way easier and way less "load" on an already "strained" alternator.

As I mentioned earlier, in this thread, there's a stock 928 pump that was designed to be used without the "pre-pump". This is found in the '87 & '88 vehicles.

928 608 104 02 gets you the correct pump.
Greg,
Thank you. I think I am going to pull them both over the next couple of months and do that.

The both whine so much its ridiculous... it could be the pump...but as long as I am going to exchange anyway, might as well go to the original equipment.

OK... new pump in and after some creative tubing, I now have the in-tank pump delete filter and the 87/88 fuel pump in and so far so good. Empty and full tank of gas with no whine. We shall see how things go over the next couple of tanks. I have not had it over 90 yet, but so far so good for response on demand.

I did verify that both are real off pumps and not knock-offs.

Tim,
You may conciser having an option to run your filter with the stock line. I still think they are a great idea for replacing the stock filters. I would love to have a hose that necks down properly from your size. I ended up using a smaller hose and reducing via stacking. Seems to be working well, but I will watch it over the next few tanks.

Thanks for the help guys...

Just did the 044 pump install on my 86.5'. Re-wiring with the relay and thicker gage wire was more of a pain than anything. 1st start-up, car idled fine and 044 was actually quiter than my stock pump. Mine had a pretty loud buzz/whine to it. I'll update after a few tanks of gas.

For those interested, I have most of the parts in for the 044 pump tank strainer kits.

I should be ready to ship them next week, just waiting on one more part to be machined.

I have a few Murf 928 strainer kits available for those interested. $175 includes shipping in U.S.

I didn't get as many made as intended because one of the main fittings was not machined correctly. I don't have the time right now to get it remedied, but I do have a few ready to ship right now.

Send me a PM if interested.
