Default 91 928 Speedometer not working

Hi guys

The speedo on my 91 928 has stopped working. I have done some basics checks:

Checked fuses, relays, unplugged ABS control unit and checked connection, Checked connections in spare tyre well.

The only thing I haven't checked is the sender unit on the rear left hub?

Can anyone offer me any further help and direction in where to look to fix the problem.

Any help and advice will be greatly received.

Dan.

Does the digital speedometer readout work? Knowing this might help to diagnose whether the problem is with connections to the analog gauge, with the gauge itself, or with the sender / wiring. (you probably already know how to activate the digital speedo readout, but just in case, you press down on the information system control lever. This changes the left digital readout from the odometer display to the speedometer display)

Default 91 928 Speedometer not working

Hi Bob

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me.

The digital display has stopped functioning too for speedometer & odometer read outs. The Odometer read has stopped calculating the miles!

Regards,

Dan.

Dan,

Check this thread. Sounds like it could be a relay, the sender at the driver's side front wheel, or a break in a wire.

Is this a fuse 25 issue from a shorted interior light? That will knock out the speedo and tach.

Hi Dan, I have checked fuse 25 and its OK. I need to test the relay, but not sure how to do so. Can anyone recommend where I can get a second hand/used speedo frequency relay from? Im in the UK.

Bob, I checked the ABS sensor which I believe sends the signal to the speedo frequency converter and it was badly clogged up, I got very excited and cleaned it up, but didnt make any difference, still not working.

Thanks again.

Dan.

My GT was doing this when I first got it. Fuse 25 looked ok, keyword "looked". I took the fuse out, cleaned the contacts on the fuse and fuse holder with de-oxit, and from that point on it worked. I then proceeded to do the same for every other fuse and relay. Just because a fuse is not blown doesn't mean it's making proper contact. Some suggest removing and re-inserting fuses 3 times is enough to do the trick.
