Curious since I'm new to these 928s...it appears lots of folks are looking to delete the sunroofs. Why? Stiffness? You guys all over 5'9 (because at 5'9 I find there to be plenty of headroom, but then I came from Alfas which have no headroom anyway).

I have no sunroof.

For headroom, and for me to get rid of a never used piece of metal that was always leaking at some point
I'm only 5'10", but my 1980's hairstyle was rubbing against the sunroof liner...so off with the roof
In addition, it does save a bit of weight, perhaps in the range of 12-14 lbs.

Cheers!
Carl

Good question, I have been trying to figure that one out for sometime. There does seem to be no love around here for sunroofs on 928's. I personally would not buy a 928 that had the sunroof delete. I do not drive in the rain, I am 6' and do not have a problem at all with head room. Losing 15lbs would be great but I would not trade that little savings for giving up the fresh breeze in my hair and the stars above. I also think it looks great cruising around on a summer night with it open.

I had a 924 before getting the 928.
It leaked so sealed it with the two part aircraft trim sealant. No more leaks from there.

Got a 928 WITHOUT the sun roof.

Seems like a lot of work and $$$ to change.

I'm 6'2" and headroom isnt a problem... until you go to a DE, AutoCross, Track Day where you have to wear a DOT approved fullface helmet... Then you realize you cant fit under the headliner without dropping the seat height and reclining the back... After you do that you either cant reach the steering wheel very well and/or your line of sight is so low it impairs your ability to gauge distance, especially up close to things like little orange cones...

In my case, since I am doing a complete ground up repaint/refurbish (https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ished-car.html), spending $375 on a roof panel, and some of my own sweat is not so bad in order to keep my hair nice and poofy and dry And on top of that I get lighted vanity mirrors too

But yes, if I had a shop do it, the bill would be pretty steep I think.

Cheers!

Some day I'll be switching mine over. I must have a weird body shape. I'm 5'9" and my head just grazes the roof. I can't fit with a helmet at all.

I don't think it's you--I think it's more about the year of the car (and seats.) I'm 6'1" and had a hard time sitting in my 84 without raking the seat back. But no problem at all in the GTS.
