Default Wheel Refinishing

My wheels have a bronze hue, which I think was an option at the time - 1983. Now, they just look dirty. I would like to have the brighter silver look, but not chrome.

Is there a techinque by which the wheels can be resurfaced to another color/finish? If so, does anyone have recommendations on who provides this service and, of course, the price. I live in the Richmond VA area.

Thanks.

I had AWRS repair and refinish my D90s. They did a pretty nice job. I got their info from Euroclassics, who uses them for repairs. Recommendation came from a friend who had his 911 Clubsport wheel repaired and was happy with the result.

They can do repairs and respray on site, but they sent mine off to a facility in Indiana. The price was fair for what they did.

I also had them fix a bent Carrera III, watched the guy do it in my driveway - amazing and well done - almost no weight to balance it now.

I have used http://wheelcollision.com and have been very satisfied. I was also very fortunate in that their trucks travel to shops and dealerships in central NJ where I garage my 928 & 944. Hence no shipping charges or headaches.

You can have them stripped and painted, or they could be re-anodized, not sure whether the bronze finish is still available- I tend to doubt it. I had a set of clubsport rims done here in SoCal by Al Reed, was about $500 at the time.

If you plan to anodize, another option is Weidman's Wheels. Harvey and team repaired and restored my 911 Fuchs to an extremely high standard. His wife handpainted the center caps and they still look great after well over 10 years. They're in N Cali.

Several years ago, I had a set re-anodized in the gold color at a shop in Indianapolis. I believe anyone who specializes in anodizing could do the same.

At the time, I had the option of going with several shades/hues of gold. I picked one that was slightly more shiny than factory finish, and I believe you could do that with any color.

Anodizing was VERY reasonable. I think at the time it was less than $200 for 4 rims & centercaps, and they really turned out great! If you want to refinish a rim & don't want it polished, I'd definately consider an anodized finish.

Best to just invest in some 18" wheels - update the look of the car and get an improved ride all in one fell swoop.

Thanks all,

I made contact with George's recommended local area wheel refinisher and it looks like I can have "new" wheels for about $400 to $500.

Again, thanks for the great advice and info.
