Default Door-Jam Stickers

I can’t stand looking at the tore up stickers in the door-jam when I open the door. There was a thread last week about someone in Canada who could make the paint code stickers, but getting a $38 Canadian money order was too insurmountable for our post office. And then there was the barcode sticker…

The paint code sticker is printed on Avery clear labels and then applied to foil (plumbers) tape. Then, for protection, I covered it with clear. I see we can't upload PowerPoint--so not sure how to post it(?), but if I can upload it, I’ll post the PowerPoint template.

The barcode took a little effort. To match the barcode lines, I did it in PowerPoint and then copied/pasted the image as a bit map so I could play with the size to get it right. It’s printed on Avery 1/2-sheet address labels and then covered in clear. If you didn’t care about the lines matching yours, feel free to use this template and just change your VIN and leave the lines the same (assuming I can upload it).

Maybe we need a "Master 928 Sticker Thread" to dump templates into. With the quality of labels and photo quality printers, there’s no sense in us spending large amounts of money on stickers. No way to recreate the radiator stickers like the original on the thick foil; but if you're like me, you've found the aftermarket ones aren't printed on it either.

Update: I can't figure out how to upload the slides; and a .doc or .pdf won't work... If you want me to e-mail them to you, just PM me.

Should be in your inbox. / Bruce

Maybe I should sell these on e-bay? I should mention that you could print these on regular labels or foil/metalic labels. I'm just limited on what I could find over here and didn't want to wait 2 weeks for an Amazon delivery.

You make them and I will buy them.
We now have a good collection of stickers that are as close to the originals as possible.
Working on a better process to get VIN stickers from Porsche as well.

Does anyone know what barcode symbology (coding scheme, standard, whatever) is/was used for the originals? I ask because at least one online site can generate downloadable barcodes from user input using a lot of different schemes. http://www.terryburton.co.uk/barcodewriter/generator/ Not trying to promote this particular site, etc. but might be helpful. (And thanks, Bruce!)

^^^^ Not unless it's midnight blue metallic But, if you find what you need, feel free to PM it to me, I'll update the slide and send it back to you so all you have to do is print it. I just don't know the color codes...

Hey NoVector- what's the stock number of the Avery labels you used? (Their website is almost as screwed up as USPS's - couldn't figure it out).

Martin - I used Avery 2" X 4" (10 per sheet), "Clear Easy Peel" Shipping Labels, #18663. Applied to the top of the metal tape is what gives them the metallic appearance. And then I used clear tape over that. I know it sounds kind of "cheap" (and it is), but it really did turn out well. If I had access to an Office Depot or didn't mind waiting for an Amazon delivery, I'm sure there's other/better metallic sticker paper that you could just print it and slap it on.

Can't remember if I sent these to you, but here's a couple others I made this weekend: firing order and lubricant sticker(s).
