Default Wheel dollies for a 928, any new options?

As far as I found, it's been a few years since this was discussed. I'm looking to buy a set of wheel dollies so that I can store an extra car in the garage. Any feedback on which ones work well for a 928?

Gojacks sound great, but are more than I'm looking to spend. I'd like to stay in the $200-$400 range. Harbor freight dollies are out based on feedback here and elsewhere.

I have a set of the ones from harbor freight and they are fantastic.

I used them last night to move my car around after my assemble screw up.

Thanks for posting this! I was talking about the cheaper HF dollies in my first post. I didn't realize they also sell these.

Are you able to change direction when pushing the car without manually realigning the castors first?

One handed push around the garage, they roll so easy you have to be DAMN careful or the car will run away from you. The casters are full ball bearing and smooth as butter.

Andre,
Thanks again. You're feedback is enough for me. It looks like a quality set of the non-jacking dollies are in the $200 to $300 range. I'm happy to pay an extra $100 to not have to use a floor jack. I'll call around to the local stores tomorrow to see if I can find four in stock (Might as well use the 20% off coupons, plus they are listed as backordered online.)

If you notice the relief crack in the floor, they just bump right over it with zero effort. The only dislike I have of them is the storage lock down hook, thus the zip ties. It will take only once for them to jump out and kick you in the leg/knee and you will use zip ties too.

They also allow you to rotate you wheels/tires in place to prevent flat spots.

H-F website sometimes shows --everything-- back-ordered. Phone call to the local store is sometimes the best option.

Andre, thank you again for the recommendation!

I picked up the HF mechanical dollies, and they work great. I drive past a HF daily so I picked them up one at a time to use a 20% coupon on each. Total cost was about $300.

I haven't used them on a 928, but they worked well moving an Esprit which weighs about 2950lbs. As Andre mentioned, the coasters have ball bearings and roll very easily, maybe too easily. They don't pivot as easily, so changing direction to position the car in an exact spot still takes a bit of time. Pushing on one corner won't always pivot the car; instead the whole car will role in the direction that you are pushing. Having a second person to help makes it much easier. Otherwise I had to adjust the casters manually. However, I didn't lubricate the vertical caster mounting shafts (suggested in the manual for the jacks). I'll try that next time and report back if it makes a difference.

Anyways, well worth the money and allowed me put another car in the garage far enough from my Wife's parking spot to be safe (I hope!).

Thanks for posting this Gary. I told my wife these would make an awesome birthday gift <hint> Garages are so small over here, it's tuff to even get a floor jack perpendicular to the car. Hoping with these I could angle the car to use what limited space I have.

You can always send the esprit to my place

Put a little lube in the castors and it will behave much much better, just remember, you increase the chances it will get away from you.

Also get the zip ties so level action does not kick back unexpected.
