Default Did I screw up with these wheels?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/18-Porsche-T...item231817bd85

I thought I had some Carrera's lined up but I think that has fallen through. While searching Ebay for 18x11 rears I saw these. I put in what I thought was a low offer of $675. To my surpise they accepted the offer right away. Did I make a mistake. It looks like a good deal but what do you guys think? I know I will need to fender roll a little, but if am going to go to a new wheel I want to go as fat as I can.

That is about right for solid spoke twists needing some cosmetic work. You didn't really overpay, but you didn't get a "great" deal either. The main thing is how much tread is really left and is there any camber wear? No pictures are shown of the tread. Also, it looks like he threw some armorall on them to shine them up. Wonder how old they are and if they are cracking. If the tires are not good, then you got a not so good deal.

When they say that there is at least 60 % tread left I believe that to mean that they would be talking about usable tread but we will see. They seem like they really value their feedback so if the the tires are not usable I would think they would make an adjustment. As far as fitment that is on me. I hope the offset is right. I have been looking at 18x11 CLW's that came off of a 996 wide body and the offsets looked like they were perfect for the 928. I am assuming since these also came off of a 996 wide body that they would work as well. That is the part that I do not know if I screwed up or not. I know you should "never assume anything".

They do show Et50 for the front but the rears are unknown. Is that an offset I can work with? It is ony a street cruiser and will not be racing it.

use this link and figure out if they will work. AO put this together. It will download a spreadsheet for you that gives all the answers. Very cool.

After doing some more searching I did find a 928 owner that does have the ET 50 8x18 on the front so it looks like I will be OK there. The rear offset is still unknown and I really do not think I will be able to find out before I pay for them. What will my chances be? I guess the worst that can happen is that I need to use spacers with a lot of rolling. I just do not want to repaint the fenders with rolling gone bad.

Do you drive through fog secure in the knowledge that there is a road somewhere under your butt? [only kidding]

To be honest [you asked for opinions] buying a set of wheels for a 928 without knowing the offset is absurdly rediculous IMHO. If the front offset is 50 you will be able to fit them but you wipe out the entire NSR Porsche designed into the steering geometry but hey-who needs that?

A 295 section will fit in the S4 rear wheel arch but the offset needs to be in the correct position. If the offset is 60 I believe you will be good to go- just check clearance to suspension unit. However, if the offset is too small [30 ish?] you will clout the fender I suspect and nothing you can do about that.

On the positve side, I have a feeling these rear wheels on the model quoted have a pretty reasonable offset so worst case you may end up having to fit spacers and new wheel studs- not a big deal just more epxense/bother.

No 911/Coxster has the correct front offset. The seller said what porker they came off but not whether they are OEM Porsche.

Reasonable deal if they fit and they are round but I would not run a front wheel with 50mm offset- been there-done that-got the tee shirt- flogged them- and then got some real wheels.

Best wishes and good luck with them

I had the same solid spokes on my car for awhile, these were used on 996 C4S models (turbos got the hollow spokes). The wheels specs are 18x8 et 50 front and 18x11 et 45 rear. I ran 225/40 fronts and (stretched) 275/35 rears. 295's will work and fit better on the 11" rim but will require some rolling or tugs on the rear fender. The front offset is far from optimal and I had to keep my ride height above 160 mm to keep them from rubbing the outer fender. They also tramlined quite a bit.

Many run them and like them but it comes to personal preference. I got rid of them because I couldn't stand the handling issues. I went to 17 x 7 and 17 x 9 with 225/255 setup and 55 offset on all 4 wheels and the handling is much better. I now have a pair of 17 x 8 et 70 Cup 2 fronts to put on in the spring and that will maker it even better!

If you want 18s I would check into some Panamera take offs. If you like the style you can get a very fresh (clean and unscarred) set for ~600/700. The offsets are more friendly also (my 8 inch front wears a 59 ET offset).

It looks like your offsets on the rear are 47. Hard to tell but if you look at the first 2 pics, the 11 is on one side of the valve stem and the number on the other side is the offset. Looks like a 47

I am a little more encouraged now that I did not completly waste my money. Thanks guys. I did look at the Panamera wheels and like them but also have my heart set on 11 rears. I just think that big butt needs to be complemented with big shoes. As far as ride and rutt wandering like a go kart, after driving 944's I am well used to that. I do not put many miles on my cars anyhow.

they should work......you will have to roll the front fenders with anything wider than a 225 or 235 tire....but thats about as wide as you should do with an 8" rim anyway.....

The rear should fit.....if you stay with a 285 or so rear tire, it shouldn't require much rolling....

Not sure why you are set on 11" rears... In practicality you won't know the difference and you are more likely to have to mess with spacers and fender rolling with the 11" than with the 10", but to each their own.

Enjoy them!

Why are people saying you need spacers more on an 11" rim than 10"? If an 11" wheel is pushing the limits on width and you may have to roll fenders, adding a spacer and pushing a spacer farther outboard would be counter productive. You probably need to eliminate a spacer if you are running one.
Spacers are needed if you want to have the wheel closer to the fender and are usually used if you are running a narrower rim with a high offset. The 993 turbo hollow spokes that I am currently running on mine are 10x18 with a 40mm offset and they fill out the fender nicely. To fit them, I had to remove the factory 21mm spacers that cam on the car.
