I'm sure there's one out there....i had the same issue with my 87 and got lucky with an 88 engine from a 5 speed. 1988 will plug right in to the 87 brains with no issues otherwise you'll have some other issues to deal with though not deal breakers. You'll find tons of other TTDWYIT....like motor mounts, Constantine's clamp to replace the stock drive shaft clamp if its an auto, etc.

Since he has a crank problem it has to be a thrust bearing failure so automatic. Sadly far too common a problem. There are too many differences between 86/86 and S-4 long blocks to make it a good option to backdate the car.

Let me guess......an automatic S4 with thrust bearing failure.....unforunately quite common....

You need at least a crank and block (typically).....but its always better to buy a known good engine.....

Didn't someone here come out with a TBF repair fixture a couple of years ago?

Really high $$$ with this statement.." WHAT TO EXPECT WITH YOUR ENGINE?

Engines are sold as a long block only, with accessories and transmissions sold separately. Accessories not included, but can be purchased separately are alternators, starters, compressors, steering pumps, coil packs, turbos, super chargers, distributors, and throttle bodies. "
No intake manifold !!

I have a GTS engine (complete) that I'm disassembling and will likely be selling as a complete but disassembled engine.

There are a number of differences to the block to accomodiate the newer manifold. it is possible to put the S4 manifold on the S3 engine. Unless you changed the LH unit the flappy will be disabled.

Now if you want a real hybrid engine put a GTS bottom end on with your heads. The GTS is an S4 engine with a stoker crank. Porsche was at the limits for boring so they had to increase the stroke to get the extra .4 liters. Of course you will pay the price of a slower rev up. Longer strokes take longer to rev than shorter strokes. But the horsepower will more than make up for it.

Then again you can add steel sleeves and 968 pistons I think it is and get 6.5 litters. Although I do not thiink anyone has been able to keep one of these running for very long.

The S4 heads have bigger valves than the S3. But the S3 cam is a little hotter. Some people have put the S3 cams on the S4 motor. But as I understand it they need to be cut.
