Testing ignition switch
The PO of my car had accumulated a bunch of spare parts that came with the car. Most I have discovered I needed. The ignition switch does not return to the run position after starting and now I am having intermitant start issues so time to replace the ignition switch (electric part).
Ther is one in the spares part box. Origin is unknown. Switch has a yellow lable with PN 928 613 017 01 and then an triangle symbol following the numbers.
Reading other posts the return function is in the electrical part of the switch as I understand it. When I cycle the spare switch with a screw driver I feel detents for different positions but no spring action at the far end clockwise. Should I be able to feel the spring return this way? Thoughts on giving this switch a try?

I would have thought that the return action was mechanical in the switch. If you followed the fun I had with my pod recently (ignition switch, intermittent start)....in the end it failed to start one day again , and it was the starter relay that was the base problem. BUT, replacing the ignition switch made it run very much better, so it was worth doing...The feel of the switch will only tell you a little, the real test is only possible when its connected - you should be able to reach under, pull the electrical plug off, undo the 2 screws holding it in place, remove and fit the other one and try, without any pod hassles.

Well I pulled the pod and swapped it out quickly.
Starts great and some of the other issues I started seeing recently with warning lights are gone, for now. Time will tell.
Thanks for the input.

Intersting. On my 84 the return spring is definitely in the switch. When you turn the switch with a philips screwdriver to the last "on" click you can continue to rotate it to start. You can only click it all the way to start once until you turn it all the way counter clockwise to reset it.
Glad it didn't sound like a pain to change it.
