85 Euro S 5-Speed Prussion Blue in Boston Look-See
After not being able to reach Jerry by phone Sat AM, I zoomed in on a sign in the background on one of the car pics, and a quick Google search had me on my way for a drive-by. I spotted the car on a used car lot with Jerry himself connecting a battery jump box to the battery.
So, Jerry explained to me that he and 2 partners bought the car new in Rome Italy and imported it to the US as a new car in 1985. Apparently, they were in the business of doing just that and for some reason decided to keep this one.
He seems like a nice guy, and explained that he had just started the car and it stalled and has not been able to re-start it, and ran the battery down. It looks like the car has not been driven in several months. I did give it a try myself with the jumper box attached, and it cranked over normally but didn’t fire. I did manage to set off the alarm in the process, and after resetting it, still no fire. He says it is a factory alarm, but I think it may be more like a dealer installed alarm – it has a unit under the glove box (see pic) and when triggered it sends a signal to a pager you can wear. This alarm would be on my list of things to check if troubleshooting the no-start.
This looks like a low option car, with Porsche script cloth seats, vinyl dash/console/rear quarters, no sunroof, perforated speaker openings in the door panels and no speakers on the rear quarters, and phone dials with no rear wheel spacers . This Euro still has the correct H4’s, and Euro running/fog light setup. It did receive the unfortunate “federalization” side marker lights.
The car looked like a straight, unmolested, low mileage example. I would NOT say it has led a pampered life, however. Jerry says all paint except for hood and front bumper is original, and there has never been any accident damage. There is a long scratch on the left rear quarter panel, and some sections of clear coat failing on the right front fender. The nose and mirrors has some road rash, which is typical for New England cars, and some paint chips on the door edges. There were no dents or dings, and the paint will probably clean up pretty nicely. All rubstrips appear to be firmly attached. Tires looked new, phonedials are nice, with a few nicks here and there.
The interior was nice, but in need of a good cleaning. The cloth inserts on the seats were very nice, but the bolsters are worn and faded. There are no rips or seam separations, but the piping on the driver’s seat bolster is worn through with the white plastic tubing showing. The vinyl dash is nice, with very minor cracks between a few defroster vents. No vertical cracks, and the pod looked nice. The interior rear quarters are vinyl and are nearly perfect. The carpet didn’t look faded, and the cargo cover was present and working, but torn. There is an aftermarket radio installed, and the original is also included.
The engine compartment looked very clean, complete, and factory correct. Jerry said the timing belt was replaced at 30,000 miles, along with plugs, wires, air filter, and all fluids. The coolant was pink and clean. This car does have ABS. There were no signs of fluid leaks anywhere, top and bottom. The factory Euro dual exhaust system was in place, and in excellent condition. The undercarriage looked clean and dry. The gearbox area showed no signs of leakage. Jerry did mention that when the fuel tank is full, there is some leakage around the filler neck, but once the level is down a bit, the leak subsides.
We are fortunate to have a collection of some nice Euro S’s here in New England for some reason, and I would probably place this one “mid pack” in terms of condition. If it check outs mechanically, this could be a very rewarding daily driver – one that you wouldn’t be afraid to put some miles on.
Jerry doesn’t seem too motivated to sell it. He said his price is firm, with the caveat that if someone wanted it before he could sort out the running issue, he would deduct the cost of that repair (by a shop of your choice) from his asking price. I think he may be enjoying this car for quite a while unless he makes a market adjustment. For his asking price, I would expect this car to be nearly showroom condition (and running ).
So, from his lot, he drove me to his house to show me is 1993(?) BMW 850, white/white, that is also for sale. This car fired right up, and was quite nice, but I digress…
That’s about all I can remember at the moment. Let me know if this deserves it’s own thread.
I do feel the need to add this disclaimer….I have no affiliation with this car or seller, and offer my comments as a casual tire-kicker, and should in no way be considered any form of PPI….
Here is a link to a more complete ad with better pictures, followed by my crappy iPhone pics. It was a rare sunny day and I was struggling with lots of glare.

Seller says he has all documentation, so a close review of records would need to take place to verify actual mileage. I did not have the opportunity to see them.
At first glance of cosmetics, I would say this car has more than the indicated mileage, but then again, this car doesn't look like it was pampered - and it has spent all of it's life in Revere...
