Hey JP, sorry I seem to have missed this thread here in the last 6 years or so... your tow eye thread tap is still MIA unfortunately. I will now make some further attempts to locate it. It was last known to be in France.

In its previous rounds in the USA the plan was to pay me (basically shipping) and get the tap in a USPS small flat rate box packaging suitable for return, then ship it back to me when done - then I sent it out again to the next on the list. Worked well enough for a few years all around the USA - there was also considerable demand from Europe too...

The cost, shipping times and customs hassles made it impractical to do the same for a European tour - so it was set up so that each user would forward it directly on to the next on the list - initially within the same county and then on to the next country. This worked well for a while but in France it started getting lent/sent on to people I didn't know and who didn't respond. Around that time I was travelling a lot and couldn't chase it up very well. That was years ago and when Jerry started his work on a tap for 928OC - I kind of let it go, hoping it was still getting some use even if I didn't know where it was.

I'll follow up on the Porsche 928 France Club (formerly L'Amicale 928) site and see if we can locate it... Any French members reading this? - my French is Slow to say the least...

Alan,

I have pretty much given up on seeing the first tap surface again, especially now that Jerry and Craig have stepped in to the breach. Would be nice though, so anytime a sharker is in touch with Euro members, remind them to try to locate and keep it circulating.

thanks

I put together a handful of tap kits to loan you guys, but I have not had very good luck with my lending program. The first one I loaned took several months to get back, and the second one I loaned is still there. I did extend the second one a couple of times to accommodate the user's needs, but I asked for it to be returned over a month ago and I still don't have it back. I hate for these other kits to go unused, but I don't really have the time to police a lending program like this.

I'll try again, however. Find my thread about these and send me a PM.

Y'all,

The 928 Owners Club had a 'tool lending' program that had been pretty successful - at least up until about 4 years ago when I resigned from an officer position. Items to be 'borrowed' (required a deposit to the Club Treasurer for the value of the item - e.g. Bosch Hammer or fender roller- plus shipping both ways in order for the item to be sent to a user. The cost of the item was refunded to the borrower by the Treasurer when it was returned in the same condition as when it was shipped to him/her (borrower paid shipping both ways)..

The thread tap for the tow hook could be a good item for the Club to obtain and loan.

I'll ask an officer of the Club to update the status of the program on this thread. and perhaps start a new thread reminding 'old timers' as well as informing new 928 owners of the program.

Gary

Good going, Robert. I'll put a kit in the mail later today or early tomorrow.

Jerry
I will get it back-
sorry for delay
I had trouble getting using it and I have been trying to get my car over to a friends garage with a lift.
Unfortunately I ran into some new problems preventing me from getting it to him-
Oh well-
It will be in the mail this week
I appreciate the extended loan time

Jerry, would you consider selling a kit to someone else so they can loan it out instead?

It would take the pressure off of you so the worry can go to someone else.
