US vs Euro driving/fog lights
Lets talk about the differences between the US vs Euro driving/fog lights.
Is it worth the $$$$ for converting the US ones to the Euro bits?
How about bigger bulbs or HID units in them?
Are the reflectors glass or plastic that would keep one from putting big lamps them?
I am considering doing this change after I do the adjustable H4's in my 87.
Thanks guys.

Our 84 apparently slid by Calif. without federalization of the lights.
The combo of H4's, plus the auxillary high beams --- its pretty brutal lighting.
Any smart HP officer would flip 180 to ticket it.
So yes, I think its worth having ( edit --- Its useful) for rural use, but I don't know if the light bulbs could be upgraded further without trapping too much heat (they are glass lenses on the early car, not sure of reflectors)

so we have one yes, and I take it that is for the stock Euro driving lamps.

Like having 747 landing lights, though I think the H4's set a little high do the lions share.
Come to think of it, there's another set on my daughter's 84 -- it got a front transplant from a Euro.
But that set is disabled when the headlights are on high.
Running H4 in high beam and aux high beams is very very bright.
Edit --- I think the aux high beams are setup with H3 bulbs, will check wattage but its fairly low.
But I'm curious what others think.

How do you...replcae the fog/driving bulbs if you cant open the case without breaking the tab that connects it all together?
My pass side..busted, drivers side...will bust if attempted I think.

want to here something funny. I didn't know there was a difference until Malcolm pointed it out to me last fall. My Driving lamps are opposite to the can/us cars
and now they may be brighter as well. sweet

I know a guy who has 55w bulbs in his marker lamps, 80 or 100 watt bulbs in his driving lamps, and 65/80 or 55/100w bulbs in his euro H4's. I can't remember exactly. He has been pulled over by LEO's for having his driving lights and high beams on, when in fact it was just the markers and low beams.
Full wattage is nice and bright, to the point that reflective signs bounce back a painful reflection.
He bought all the bulbs at JC Whitney.

Greg-
If you end up getting the Euro fog lamps, for the GTS back in 2010 I ordered a passenger side foglamp lens, but stupidly used the ROW part number 928 631 952 00. It wasn't returnable. If you're interested I'd sell it for $275 shipped.

I've been wanting to upgrade all the front lights to euro-spec stuff for a while now. It seems like the way to go. But I can never find a good deal on the fog/driving lights for an early car.

What was the ROW part number for a RHD car, if not I may be interested in it.

^LOL^ I'll relay the message and I'm sure he'll consider it.
He really likes how the high beams light up a dark, scary, deer-infested 2AM drive home from work, though.

The reflectors are metal in both cases, the adjusters, ekelton and rear case is plastic and the lens is glass.
If you add stongard or similar protection I think the practical limit of total wattage in the unit on at the same time is approx 90W. 2x 55W H3's on at the same time (ROW fog config) is too much @ 110W, single 100W H3 is too much also (USA Config).
Best option to me is 55W H3 Aux High beams and HID ~35W in fogs potentially on together (ROW fog config) for 90w total.
Is it worth it to swap? - for most people certainly no...
Alan
BTW HID in the fogs is not a simple plug & play solution - it needs adaptation to not be anoying to other motorists.
