Update: it will be fixed, as my insurance company has agreed upon, and most likely the work - which has now started - will be all finished "done" by/during April. I visited the owner of the specialist place where it will be fixed, and after 2 hours I walked away very impressed with their work. So I feel it is in good hands.

I'll post photo's of the repair in progress in the weeks to come.

 

Well I'm glad for that outcome. It is a really great color.

BTW only the rear marker lights are monitored... unfortunately you got those too...

Ouch!! ... sorry to see the damage, but glad to hear that you're expecting a good outcome on the repair.

 

Hereby some pictures of the repair in progress, which will still take a few weeks till fully completed (and I am fine with that, because the work is extremely thoroughly and well done).

After careful considerations it was found that the right rear quarter panel did not had to get removed, and could be put back into the original shape. Work hour wise this is more or less the same as replacement, as an expert panel repair persons who even want to take on this type of particular job are very hard to find. I am very happy with this and actually pushed for it if at all possible, because with replacement there is always the chance of rust forming on the welded in piece in due time - as the original dip-galvanized layer will then get broken up.


The original rear bumper could also be repaired, due to this repair place having full Porsche plastic repair facilities on hand (I have inspected it from 1cm distance, and it is perfectly done). And it least we know that the original one will fit exactly...


Right front fender removed (I'm currently checking on non-insurance related WYAIT items for possible replacement, as this kind of easy access is hard to beat...):

Uh, what colour choice? I hope that is primer as it appears to be.

 

Bill: full points on that being the primer colour , I was just trying to "steer the pot" a bit... Hence: Irish blue it was and again soon will be.

As I have whichever Rennlister who is reading this attention now, hereby a few more ongoing repair shots :

- As I have written above: I am very happy with the repair shop owner attention to all details (and I admit of being a very "picky" type of person: the devil is in the details and all details better be right!). Example of this: to make sure that the body shape contour of the rear quarter panel was put back 100.0% right, apart from having the full body measurement and equipment he also obtained a loaner (1992 or 1993, points of those of you who know how I figured that out) GTS patrol filler door as the original one has been lightly bended here and there due to the accident. This so not to rely on the original bended one, when the right rear quarter panel was put back into it's original shape. And GTS patrol filler door's are NOT exactly growing in trees in Finland!
- This was the first primer coat and one or two more primer coats were going to be put on after that the next day (I did not attended that painting session).
- And yes: the right rear quarter window trim and glass has been fully removed before painting.

 

I have one '92 filler door easily available but one they use isn't mine, AFAIK. No idea who else could have spare around. Interesting. Repairs look really good and not removing rear wing looks to be good idea.

 

Should be as good as new :-)

The matte primer gray looked WICKED COOL. Would love to see a whole car looking like that.

How close does the paint match up?

 

Seeing your car with the mirror removed made me wonder what it would look like without it (thinking of the old Testarossa that didn't have one on the passenger side) I filled in the holes... I kind of like it.
