Default 1981 1928 fuel line leak

Our 1981 1928 leaks fuel out the bottom side of the car at a fast rate. My Dad says it needs one of two possible fuel lines replaced but is not sure which one.

Can anyone tell me which line we need and where is the best place/lowest price to get it?

All of them. Don't start it again until all are replaced. 4 IIRC under air cleaner, 8 at the injectors, 1 leading up from passenger side header.
Then possibly one or more near fuel tank and one under midsection.

You are lucky you are alive.

Put the keys on the mantleplace.

Search this board for a couple days.

Then check back with your questions.

Best place for this... probably 928sRUS.

Price --- sub $200.

Oh. Welcome! Post Pictures!

And make damn certain if you have a 944 that you replace the three lines in the engine compartment with Lindsey Racing braided ones or equivalent.

For parts, search for Roger Tyson or www.928sRus.com. Better yet, just call him at 817.430.2688. Very knowledgeable and well respected amongst the 928 community-and a helluva nice guy too!

911's too.Although the pic posted by BSnyder has got to be the best incentive to check and replace fuel lines.

944J - You didn't mention whether your leak is at the front or rear of the car, so I don't know which PET picture to send you so you can look at the fuel line diagrams. However, AutoAtlanta has pretty good diagrams--you should be able to drill-down on your specific model (K-Jet, L-Jet, etc.)

944J - you've been a member since '02 - don't those 944s ever catch on fire? Or do you guys just don't talk about it? Fuel lines are the cheapest, best insurance you can do for your Porsche.

yes, and one of our 944s died because of the dreaded fire when we got it back from the mechanic, but we didnt feel lucky to be alive, lol

i guess its more dangerous in a 928?

Same. Ask Socal girl on the 928. And Lart, who makes a business of it on 944 side of house.

So one of your cars burned down and you guys didn't research why deeply enough to replace all rubber fuel lines?

Your "mechanic" is hired help?

I've met lart before, nice guy, he sold me a 944 turbo bumper.

Yes, we've had a vw van do that too back in the 70's. But neither the 944 or vw van exploded and both gave us plenty of time to exit the vehicle.

These 928's don't look like explosions, more like fires, but what do I know?

gas in liquid form burns, fuel in vapor form explodes...

you can have a vary nasty fireball happen very quickly.. and if it happens while at a high rate of speed, it could be difficult to get stopped and out of the car before getting burned.

I saw someone burn to death in a volkswagon bug. They were rear ended on the bridge to the mainland and the car burst into flames. I was a kid and a few cars back in traffic with my mother. I will never forget their hand scampering for the door **** on the outside of the car through the open window..
Never could figure out why they could not get out.. but whatever reason, a tough way to go..
