Throttle body rebuild
what grease have people used for the bushings and that little seal wrap thing on the throttle shaft ? anyone have any good diagrams on where shims go etc? (to compare with what i drew up)

From the LH end of the shaft in the pic, there is a rubber seal ring with a square cross-section, then the fiber sleeve bearing. Note the spring sleeve orientation - hat rim is outward. At the RH end of the shaft is the second fiber sleeve bearing, then 3 shims and the C-clip. I destroyed my shaft end cap, but didn't need it because of the TPS blade extension off the shaft.

Just finished cleaning the oily mess from the throttle body on my '79 and wondered if some of the slime was grease from the butterfly shaft bearings. Is the conventional wisdom to dismantle and re-grease to prevent vacuum leaks? Cheers, John

I just rebuilt the throttle body on my S3 today, new S4 flappy bearings with double seals in place of the original bearings.
I used nothing more exotic than some simple moly grease. A dollop in each bearing, a smear on the shaft to ease entry through the seals.
