Default Upper Control Arm Nuts

Curious if anyone knows ... when you replace a front UCA, what is the correct torque for the nuts on either end of the UCA shaft? (not the ones that hold the assembly to the body, those are 104 ft lbs) ...

Are the nuts on the ends of the UCA shaft the kind that should be final-tightened with the weight on the wheels?

I think I remember Bill Ball mentioning this in the past, but couldn't find a definitive answer.

Yes. However once the car is on its wheels there is no access to those nuts.

That's why you lift it with the wheel off and jack under the lower ball joint.

I'm sorry but I can't help you with teh torque value. The only thing I torque to spec are the head bolts. These large nuts would fall into my "good n tight" category.

iirc they are M12x1.5 thread.
I would expect them to take around 65 ft lbs.

But looking through the manual I cannot seem to locate a specific torque value for them.

If you're talking about this nut (for the bolt that goes through the bushing), I used 63 ft-lbs. I think I also used some blue thread locker. I used 63 ft lbs as it was the same torque as the lower bolt that goes through shock bushing--but like you, I couldn't find it in the WSM. Carl has a UCA guide on his site, but unfortunately, it doesn't have the torque value either. Good luck! / Bruce

Couldn't find them either when I replaced the upper A-arms. I made sure they were nice and tight.

There is no factory torque value because they're not meant to be undone - the whole upper control arm assembly is provided as a single unit from Porsche.

Having said which - I went with 65ftlbs based on the thread pitch (M12x1.25 from memory - too lazy to go measure one downstairs).

It is worth replacing the nuts with new - IIRC, they're cone lock and after a few undo's, lose a lot of their locking friction (like a lot of the suspension nuts).
